This is the second teaser of the new SUWW2 aircraft.
I think it's a good time to announce the name:
Rikigun Ki-93 (lit. "Army airframe #93") Ground Attack Aircraft
Wikipedia entry
Note that Western sources often mistake it as a heavy fighter, it's not, it is a dedicated anti-tank ground attack aircraft designed in 1943.
Speed (IRL): 624 km/h @6000m
Speed (in-game): 650km/h sea level, 900+ km/h @6000m (in theory it can go supersonic at extreme altitude)
Armament:
2x 20mm Ho-5 autocannons
1x 57mm Ho-402 autoloader AT cannon
1x 12.7mm Ho-103 flexible gun for self defense
2x 250kg bombs
The real Ki-93 has propellers rotating toward opposite positions, sadly if you do that to the in-game WWII air-cooled engine the propellers would be placed differently (one further at the shaft, one sticking to the engine) causing asymmetric performance.
So yeah, I had to use a few fuselage blocks and 12 small rotaters to make my own engine.
This aircraft is currently performing well against the two WWII challenges in the game, both dogfight and anti-destroyer.
It can also take out the WWII fleet in sandbox only with its guns (though I failed three times before finally nailing it)
Right now only the Ho-5 has the cartridge ejection effect, I'm still evaluating whether to keep it to the final version.
I'm also trying to fix the problem that losing one engine means certain crash for this plane... but it might be a lost cause, having 3000 hp on one side vs none on the other is not a good idea...
There will be 1 to 2 further teasers before the release, comment T or upvote to be notified about the updated teaser.
oh on a side note, I do plan on re-inventing the cowl flaps of the vanilla WWII engine as well. it's just not the first priority atm.
@randomusername because even if I use mechanical engines you would say the same. I did, however, use general parts to re-create the shape of the vanilla engine. That's what I mean by re-inventing (the in-game WWII) engine.
Stop arguing on this.
@randomusername Well first this engine is constant speed (adjust output by pitch not by RPM), and I used other blocks to make the look of the built-in WWII engine just because that weird prop position problem.
@randomusername You mean rotator engine? Nah I prefer something that actually makes the engine sound...
I realized that bug, so they probably need to fix it.
