Custom control surface

So, I was asked how do you make custom control surfaces, well this is how I do it (no doubt someone will know a better more efficient, lower part count method or whatever, but this is the easiest way for me)

So you are building your orange wing of death and decided that those plain boring square wings just wont do, so I start off with (for this example anyway) a simple wing formed from 2 pieces, 1 leading edge and 1 tapered section
1

I then add a rotator, now i use WNP's XML editor (thanks WNP), so my rotators have the following stats
2

I nudge the rotator into the wing enough so the large part is just hidden (surely you dont need a photo of this bit...) The rotator will be set to 10deg movement and 40% speed (and then roll, pitch or yaw etc.)

I then add a custom inlet (which allows for trailing edge to taper) to the custom rotator and nudge forward to leave a small gap
3

Next I add a custom wing panel - I use these all the time, when the panel is scaled down the lift isnt so a small panel can represent a big wing so dont stretch too big or weird stuff happens.
4

I then nudge the wing into the control surface and add another wing to act as an er.. wing.
5

And there we have it, custom control surface on a killer orange wing. Note if its an elevator I add 2 rotators facing each other so one can be trim and one pitch.

@growthstarboard You are not incorrect but if you are clever and use the triangle method for the tapering wing section you can end up with the trailing edge at a constant depth and then this method still works (its what i do on 99% of my builds)

How do you do the inlet part?

I love this technique but u can’t use it on a wing where to root is thicker than the tip, I’ve spent hrs trying to come up with ideas and still only have a few that work
