I've been working on a new build for a little while now, it's just a fighter jet with not much special about it. I've been trying to build it to a more true-to-life scale than usual as an experiment, but that's caused a couple issues. Primarily, the wings on it are massive. That's fine, except for the fact that it makes them huge targets which can be destroyed with a couple shots. Now I tried encasing them in fuselage for that extra bit of armor, but two problems arose from that. One, it flat out murdered the handling. I dunno if they made it more realistic now or if it was just the extra weight, but even with adjustments to keep the CoM in the same spot it flew horribly. Two, the wings flexed up and down thanks to the size, and having bits of wing poking out and going back in is super ugly. Any ideas for countering any of these issues?
What I like to do if I want to increase survivability is have multiple layers of parts. Not merged parts because that makes no sense and because it doesn’t work as intended, but rather stacking parts. Like making a sandwich by vertically stacking three wings. This has proven effective for me, however it dampens performance if one wing is destroyed.

I didn't realize it got bundled in, that's interesting. Thanks for the responses, I may take up XML editing but odds are I'll keep the design with default stats.
@Sirstupid
.
XML is vanilla game.
@Sirstupid you can't, xml is currently the only way to do it. Overload is bundled in the game now anyway so shouldn't be a problem if you use mobile
Thanks guys, I'll take that all into consideration. What about ways that don't require XML stuff? I've always enjoyed the challenge of working within the limits of vanilla, even if it makes it tough to get my designs just right.
Adding on to what the other guy said, you can also have a gun that heals your parts lol
Use structural wings and enable control surfaces (fixes wobbling for the wings) and also increase the health... you know, for less boom boom when getting shotty shot
