Frame rate diagnotics

So, I by no means have a gaming system. Intel Pentium G4560 CPU and Nvidia GeForce 8400GS GPU. I have a pretty sad experience with SP, but it’s workable until I try to aim things. I found the dev console and toggled my FPS readout. Average is 11 FPS. Max is 12, min is 4. Is this my cpu or my gpu?

Maybe it's time for an upgrade.

Fixed it! I thought I knew better than the graphics presets. I enabled the low preset and I am averaging 60/60 fps over water, as low as 39/40 fps cruising over Mywar Island. Frames decrease as more terrain is in view, but the game plays smooth like BUTTER.

I will look into malwarebytes. Defragmenting seems like a good idea. I will look into that more when I get access to my PC again. Does anyone know of any way I could get deeper diagnostics in-game?

@AwesomeCronk You can't just always rely on Windows Defender. Try to at least get Malwarebytes. The free version is just enough to get rid of viruses and malwares etc. It seems like you don't have an SSD as well, so try defragmenting your hard drive.

@AwesomeCronk all good anti malware is third party. It's just a matter of finding a good party

SP has run this way since day one. I am up to date.

16 GB. SP says it is using about 560 MB.
I have a seagate barracuda 1TB HDD. I also would like to avoid 3rd-party anti-malware.

@AwesomeCronk System updates are also important. Check if there's any pending Windows updates.

@AwesomeCronk Also, what is your RAM?

@AwesomeCronk Get Malwarebytes and run a scan. Also, if you don't have an SSD, you could try running defragmentation, but I doubt that'll have any effect on the game (given that most of it is loaded from RAM)

Virus scans are clean, ran yesterday. Maybe I just need some setting tweaks.

I doubt it's your hardware. My laptop has an Intel Celeron 1017U with a built in Intel HD 2500 GPU, and SP runs at 20-24 fps on medium settings. Do some virus scans and system cleanups, and/or check for available system updates if necessary.

Are you certain the issue is in the hardware? Ran a virus scan recently? My laptop has a B800 Celeron and no GPU, MUCH worse than your setup, and it can run the game decently (albeit at poor settings, but it is very playable when I'm on the go and don't want to bother with Android controls)
