Good and bad news in one

31.3k AircroftDesign  4.7 years ago

Due to the escalating situation with COVID 19 in the UK I have put myself in limited contact with the outside world. to clarify I am not ill but I do have 2 vulnerable family members. I live in a city and get 4 trains a day so my chances of getting are pretty good.
The good news is that I am coming out of my (kinda) retirement early I will start uploading again very soon.
I hope you and your loved ones are well. Stay safe folks.

Thanks. As for less biased, more accurate and intellectually intriguing news, I would suggest South China Morning Post- even though they occasionally tend to be strongly opinionated, they don't sugarcoat news with outrageous adjectives and dramatic descriptions like the New York Times. @sheepsblood

I prefer a realist outlook on things though- for me, a harsh reality gives motivation. You're right though- most of the time news stretched too far in one direction is quite likely to be fake. Heck, we don't even have real news- we only have media which has an iron grip on what the majority believes. @sheepsblood

@ChallengerHellcat Thank you. I was wondering if it made sense. It always seems there has to be news that is stretched so far in one direction. It is always about trying to scare people. I am so sick of the news. There is one news outlet I do rely on because it is always positive news.

I needed to find some positive news and one day found them. I don't care if they lie to me (I don't believe they do). As long as it is happy positive news. Better than being sad.

As someone who lives in China and tries to look at things from an unbiased, constructive perspective, I find that channel quite fake. It's not very logical at times, too. @sheepsblood

Stocking up is always a good idea- after experiencing the SARS outbreak, my parents has always kept 2 boxes of masks or more. Open air markets are very likely under stringent health tests, closed or refurbished for sanitary purposes- believe it or not, the people and government here is quite diligent in further prevention. I haven't seen animal organs hanging around midair in my local market (very clean), even chunks of meat that used to hang from hooks are now put in refrigerators (cleaned daily) @sheepsblood

Iran probably has at least 100 times as many cases as are reported.

I feel so bad for people like you having to use public transit. My mother-in-law who lives in Brussels has to ride an hour to work across the bus and trains. She is 80, a severe asthmatic, and that stupid mask and her scarf are not gonna protect her. Her tiny pension doesn't pay the bills so she has to go. I think she gets like 630 Euro/month.

@AircroftDesigin I am staying home as suggested. Our whole family is. My wife is even thinking of calling out for the next 2 weeks. She works in one of the worst places... Way too many people from all over stop through.
I already work from home. Plus, we have been stocking up for quite a long time. We like having lots of backup of things like shampoo, soaps, cleaners.
In the story of the Any & Grasshopper I am not the Grasshopper, I am the Ant. I already have the wood cut and split for 2020-21 winter. Just have to stack it now.

@AircroftDesigin You keep them safe. I have 6 adult kids. I also have 13 acres of land and a home to defend. We may live in the woods but some of our neighbors are reformed or current junkies.
Between the junkies and people who live paycheck to paycheck, I know we have to defend our place. There is already talk on social sites about people robbing others if they run out of food or essentials because, their workplaces are closing. I do understand how they feel and I will do what I can for my family. I will not rob someone. I will ask my neighbors for donations. If someone asks me, I will give what I can.

I know this now...I will be using my fields to grow as much produce as possible for myself and for my town. I want to help everyone in the end. I hope all of you do the same. Seriously, everyone needs to grow a garden and share the food this year.

Oh and all the Chinese on here need to demand their country stop all open air animal markets. PLEASE

One thing to think of everyone. Even from the smallest country with the highest amount to the largest country with the smallest amount of infected. This thing isn't scary. We have more people with deadlier illnesses everywhere. How this became so blown up to me is politics and media hype.
Sure old people die from it and so do immune compromised. Those groups also die from many other sicknesses and diseases.
I am not saying all of this to be inconsiderate. I am just giving you the facts.
If I told you that there were 1 million active cases of the flu right now, would you worry as much? Would you worry if I told you that there are 16 millions cases world wide RIGHT NOW? Would you shut down everything to stop it's spread because it has killed 18,000 people so far?
Yes, COVID is deadlier (FOR SOME). This doesn't excuse the fact we are destroying our economies because of it. I find all of this very very strange.
More flu victims, more flu deaths, but a lower death rate... Yes, the numbers make sense. The way we are attempting to stop the COVID spread doesn't make sense.

BTW can someone enlighten China that it DID NOT come from America or ITALY or even IRAN. I had an email conversation with one of those Alibaba reps, and he said they were told it came from the USA. THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE ANY SENSE!!! The EPI CENTER was China. They had all the nasty killer diseases for the past 3-5 thousand years.
Sure a few from Africa and one from either Mexico or USA (swine flu). Anyway, about it, someone needs to stop those animal markets. They are disgusting.

@ArcturusAerospace I don't believe we have tested anywhere close to how many actually have it. Look at the stats. We have tested only about 25 per 1000 people while other countries have tested like 250-500 per 1000. So we are in for a BIG number change by the end of the week when these new rapid covid tests all get done and come back.
