Here is my idea. So using the cockpits latitude, longitude, pitch and roll, it would fly slightly beside and below (refer to the image) the lead. However, it would be able to follow the roll and pitch of the lead and try to maintain its position (allowing for some natural movement off course.) Would likely use PID controllers?
Current issues:
- Not aware of any way for the wing men to detect its position relative to the lead. (the system would be blind)
