"Sir intelligent says they are being escorted by 3 other ships, one of them is yamato. Midway is going to launch every available plane they can on yamato."
"Yamato?! I thought that sank years ago?"
" well sir it didn't sink. I was severely damaged though. I think it just got out of drydock from what intelligence has been suggesting."
" sir were with in range. The enemy deastroyer would be an easy kill. Primision to fire sir?"
"Yes go ahead. Fire on the deastroyer."
The Bergens guns fired on the deastroyer and hit midship. USS Daren also fired on the deastroyer and managed to hit an ammo storage and it ruptured the ship. Celebrations were short though as one of the enemy cruisers fired on the Daren, luckily it missed. Both the daren and the Bergen fired on the cruiser and it suffered 4 hits. The midway finnaly got some planes up and they headed towards yamato. The USS new Jersey fired on another of the enemy cruisers and was able to destroy the command bridge and also hit one of the torpedo racks and exploded the rear of the ship. Yamato finally got its massive turrets on target and fired on the daren. The daren tried evasive maneuvers but to no use, the daren was hit 3 times and was slowly starting to sink. The daren fired one last shot, and it started going down faster and faster. The USS new Jersey fired again as well as the Bergen and hit the yamato 8 times but the yamato was barely damaged. Some of midways torpedo bombers launched their payload in the sea. 4 torpedos went cruising towards yamato. 3 missed but one hit the rudder and was going to suffer the same fate as bismark. With its rudder broken it had a constant turn to the left. Now midways dive bombers were on the attack, as well as every able ship fired on yamato. Yamato returned fire and struck Jersey once on the front deck but did little damage. Jersey went for a full broadside and fired. At the same time 3 dauntless dive bombers were amming at the crippled ship. New Jerseys shells made a hole in the top deck and on of the dive bombers bombs flew into the hole and exploded the ship in a massive fireball. The last two ships ran off to the west, and the taskforce finally ceased fire.
" we just sunk yamato," Lieutenant jell said with disbelief, " I knew it would be sunk eventually but I didn't think it would be us that would be apart of it. I can't believe we actually just sunk the world's largest battleship."
" yes jell it's all well and good but we need to help the survivors of daren before we can celebrate." The Bergen was declared the one to save any potential survivors of the daren. Of its 600 man crew they were able to save 328, many of them badly wounded.
"Set a course for base we need to get these men to a hospital. Full speed!"
15 men died on the way to base and another 30 died because of their injuries. The ones that died on the Bergen were given a proper navy funeral.
"Sir USS William is comming to join us. From the sound their bringing a sub with them too."
" good. It will be good to have a sub to help with reconnaissance."
It's been 2 months since their engagement and sinking of yamato and finally they got another ship to join there taskforce. They were all parked near base as they await their new ships. Captain Wenger was anxious to get back out to sea and into another engagement.
