Using SimplePlanes to design a car... is it possible?
Now, SimplePlanes is a plane game, but users have still been making cars and other vehicles for years. They may have been able to make them work in-game, but would they work in real life? the simple answer is no, probably not.
But yes, it is still possible. see, SimplePlanes is NOT 1:1 with real life, and that's where most of the problems start. The weight would be different, the aerodynamics, The COM, almost everything would be a bit off. Now you could always use SimplePlanes as a base, use it to design the looks of a car, and that's easy. use SimplePlanes to get a feeling of what it would look like.
But what if you wanted to fully design a car using SimplePlanes?
Yes, as I said you could do it. But how? First, let's start with the basics. You would need to know a lot about cars, how they work, how to fix them, and all of that. Another thing, that would help align the COM and weight problem with real life, is XML. You can look up how much, say a 2x2ft of aluminum weighs(for a body panel maybe) then you can use XML to get the weight right. You can also do this for tires, framework, and anything else. But that only solves 1 or 2 problems.
Ok so now you have the looks and the weight sorted out, what's next?
Next, is the mechanical side of the process. place your engine, transmission, battery, fuel tanks, and all that. (note that they don't have to work or be functional, but make them the right size and weight(shape might also help). make your suspension, add the wheels, and connect the wheels to their respective axles. now connect the axles to the drive shaft, and get everything hooked up. once this is done, fine-tune the weight and everything for the parts you just added.
good! now that everything is hooked up in a realistic way, test your car. ofc the driveshaft and axles don't work, but that doesn't matter. the car should move. the next thing is making sure nothing collides. test the suspension, and make sure the car behaves normally. just remember, just because it works in SimplePlanes, doesn't mean it works irl. once there is no collision happening, and nothing is going through something else, you go to the next step
now, you can start the longest process; making and assembling the car irl.
put everything together. make the frame, place the engine, weld things together, add the electronics, put the body panels on. then, test it. make sure it can hold its own weight. make sure the engine turns on and runs. make sure you can rev the engine, then start driving it. try driving over some bumps, test the suspension, do some turns, and make sure the car generally works.
now, then 2 things will happen;
You successfully made a car, using SimplePlanes!
or
You tried your best, but you ultimately failed. (better luck next time)
Now let me clarify, this is NOT 100% accurate. i left out a lot of stuff you would need to be in order to make a car. this is reality would be a lot more complex and difficult too. i said some of the most basic things you need to do.
Oh, I have 0 points. yep, that's right. this is my first post, so uh.... "hello"
I have been building, and lurking on simpleplanes for 2.6 years about, I finally made an account today. i love this game, and will be uploading some builds soon. most of my builds will be cars, ofc. sometime this week I will upload the first build I ever made, a car that one day I will be making irl.... (hmmm I wonder why I made this post)
ok fine, here a little bit about me:
-I am a 14 year old male, I live in the states.
-one fact about me; i have no sense of smell
-fav thing? suspension
-I play mobile, using an iPhone X (this post was made on my Chromebook)
-I spend at least 3 hours every day on SimplePlanes(hope to get that to 5)
-I have a dog
-I don't know what else to say about me
-ok I'm moving on
also, if anyone needs help with suspension on their car, please ask me! i know a lot of tips and tricks for suspension, and am willing to help others!
oh, you want to collaborate? well, maybe.
Hmmm, i see that this post is getting a bit lengthy.... ill finish up
i plan on making YouTube channel, mainly for suspension tutorials, how to make a car work, and all that stuff. later on, i will definitely be making a video of me making my own car, that ofc has been designed using SimplePlanes.
I think that's all i have to say, so if you made it this far, thanks for reading!
@Potato21 alrighty then
Eh, I don’t want to continue this cause it will probably end up causing a new dumb drama. @TheDerpingMemes
@Potato21 i don't want to
mostly because i don't want anyone stealing it
@Potato21 if your asking for a proof of conversation
i simply can not give you that because i had been given a phone number to call
and i have called that number
if you simply want that number i wont give it to you because i don't trust you to call it
or anyone else
the number was emailed to me by Jeff D Gardner
and that number was his
i explained the engine to him and he said that they will forward that to aeronautics and consider the engine design
Sure@TheDerpingMemes
@Potato21 of what? a schematic?
Just send a picture and I’ll believe you. @TheDerpingMemes
@TheDerpingMemes @Potato21 i actually got the idea for the engine because of simpleplanes
i simply did not use it to model the engine in any sort of way
@Potato21 and i didn't use simpleplanes to make the engine that is very ignorant
i have no idea why people think that
i have done extensive research on aircraft propulsion
and designed my own based off of already proven facts and statements
@Potato21 believe what you want
as for the truth eventually comes out
or is already out
unno
tried to sound cool
@TheDerpingMemes No they aren’t...
have you even seen them
the build quality is worse than a tesla or something (im pretty sure i heard somebody say that tesla has suck build quality, correct me if im wrong)
@Scrapter
@JeskoGoesVROOM XD, your cars aren't bad mate
you just roasted me in 331 ways on my horrible car building skills
gg man
(don't worry you didn't offend me lol, just saying)
@Numbers indeed
for example lockheed martin is considering an engine design of mine and it basically started because i failed to make an F-15
so i ended up with an idea
the engine is very similar to a rolls-royce pegasus engine and a standard turbojet
no further detail is being given at this time
You can convert into 3D model files. Then with a 3D printer I guess you could build parts
Short answer: yes
lol. you should try it maybe @jamesPLANESii
I must admit I've definitely thought about this stuff before lol
It is fine though if you just want the shape of it
Sp’s bad physics and limited Powertrain customization would make designing a real car difficult
@Scrapter that reference XD
That could be possible, why? Idk, but its cool to see cars built irl that were created from a game, if we can have Real Size Hotwheels, if we have 3D printing and AI design for a car, why not a car created in a game, its a cool concept
My goals are beyond your understanding
@FishMiner
I mean... You could, but why?
Sheeeeeeeeesh that's a in depth car writing
