criticize my builds

18.8k NexusGaming  4.0 years ago

Ever wanted to criticize my trashy builds? Nows the time to do that!
I think my builds are trash and I would like the community's opinion on them and how can I improve them

Note: I only want constructive criticism. I don't want people being excessively rude to me about my builds.

Your more recent builds look like little things you have put together to experiment with and posted, which is fine. However, I am sure the community would like to see more complex designs and dedicated projects

@NexusGaming EternalDarkness made a tutorial in his bio. It requires a lot of rotating and stuff but I've gotten the hang of it

@AsteroidAsteroidTheBook what is the triangle method
i have tried using them before but they're annoying when doing anything that is not a straight wing

Critisism on your U-34 Boar Utility Aircraft.

1: you should have made the nose much shorter, it looks like Pinocchio

2: a different suspension system would have looked better, the one currently on it doesnt really fit

3: you should start using cockpit wedges, it will make life a lot easier, and the default cockpit just looks out of place

4: Custom cockpit controls will go a long way, even simple ones like the lights and the joystick found in the bush plane

5: the car engine inside of the nose (i didnt know it existed until i went to shorten the nose) should be visible and scaled down a little

6: wing supports look nice, and theyre on a lot of planes, it looks odd without them

    My revised version

While your things have good flight models, I think you should try working on custom control surfaces next. There are multiple methods, but my favorite is the triangle technique. It can be modified to suit your needs based on triangle size, lenght, etc, but it's a good start to making your builds better. When using a lot of triangles, be careful of excessive drag.

This goes against my values and morals but I don't want to be mean, but I must criticise.

    1. You should probably blueprint your designs, because they look better than if you just built while looking at pics. It's why I remake my old builds, cause they are better looking with blueprints.

    2. You should work on using more custom thumbnails in flight, than just taking a pic in the designer.

    3. You should start taking time on your builds, and release more blockbuster builds than mediocre ones. What I mean is that as a 12.5k user you are, you should have builds getting on the front page, or at least close enough. When your best build is the first one, then maybe you need to take all of these into account.

    4. Once you combine my advice, you should be doing better than before. I cannot stress this enough: blueprints are game changers. The first blueprinted build I made was my first front page build, and thanks to FireFast212 pushing me to blueprinting, I've been gaining thousands of points. I don't think you're a bad builder, I just think you haven't realized that potential. I'd also like to add that using fuselage wings with actual wings inside is a step up. It's not custom control surfaces, but it's on the way there. Once you realize that, xml modding should start to come naturally, then part positioning. The reason I grow so fast (I guess) is because I used all at the same time early on, not discovering one at a time. That should help.
