Introduction
So, you’ve just signed up for Discord. You log on, but you don’t know how to join or create a server. You could just google it, but you don’t trust certain websites. So what do you do? You ask SP. And so here I am making a quick tutorial for those people.
Joining a server
You can join a server by clicking an invite link. Let’s use EternalDarkness’s bio as an example.
Follow the red box as shown. You’ll be greeted with a screen like this:
Click “Accept Invite”. Follow the server rules/verification from there. Then you’re in!
Creating a server
Let’s say you want to create a server, not join one. This tutorial will show you how to:
- Make a server
- Add channels
- Create roles
- Make invite links
Making the server
To make a server, click the green “+” on your screen, then select “Make my own”. Follow the directions after that (such as making a custom name), and you shiuld be greeted with a screen like this.
(PLACEHOLDER)
This means you’ve made a server! But it’s terribly bland.. click the highlighted arrow and select “Server Settings”. After you’ve done that, select “Roles”. This’ll be continued in the next section.
Creating roles
So you’re at the Roles screen. What do you do now? Next to the “ROLES” text, you should see a +. Click this. You’ve made a new role! Edit it to your desire, then save.
Adding + managing channels
Next to the “TEXT CHANNELS” text, there’s a +. Click this. You’ve added a channel! Manage this by selecting the gear, and managing to your desire.
Creating invite links
Select the name of your server and select “Create Invite”. You’ll be greeted with a screen. See that blue hyperlink? Click it and manage link to your desire. Then copy the link by clicking “Copy”! Voila! You’ve made an invite link. Paste it anywhere you like! (Except places you can’t...)
Formatting
A guide to Discord formtating can be found here. Don’t worry! It’s made by Discord themselves.
