The John C. Wilcox-class frigates are a class of six guided missile frigates operated by the Saltwater Navy as a patrol frigate/helicopter frigate. The ships are modernized Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates, and feature modern equipment such as the HSMM anti-ship missile and RIM-178 Arrowhead close in weapons system.

Modifications included in the modernisation work:
- 76mm naval gun replaced with 57mm anti-aircraft gun.
- Phalanx CIWS replaced with the Arrowhead missile system CIWS.
- Mark 13 single-arm launcher replaced with a thirty-two cell vertical launch system, with room for Sea Ceptor, ESSM, ASROC or HSMM Block3.
- Radar suite completely replaced with modern search, navigation and fire control radar.
- Modified internal superstructure to accommodate two RHIB sea boats.
- Refurbishment of internal displays with glass touch-screen versions.
- Upgraded communications systems.
- Updated living accommodation.
- New diesel engines replacing gas turbines for increased fuel efficiency and range.
- Addition of modern fixed and towed array sonar equipment, equivalent of Sonar 8027 in capability.

Displacement - 4,550 tons.
Maximum speed - 28 knots.
Range - 5,100 nautical miles.
Complement - 167 officers and men.
Aviation Facilities - Flight deck and hanger capable of housing two medium-lift helicopters.
Armament - x1 57mm naval gun, x1 Phalanx CIWS, x1 RIM-178 Arrowhead CIWS, x6 torpedo tubes, x32 vertical launch cells.
Boats carried - x1 rigid-hulled crew transfer boat, x2 RHIB sea boats.
