[SUGGESTION] Ball Joint Rotators. SP NEEDS these!

234k jamesPLANESii  4.0 years ago

Currently in SP, the only way to make ball joint type rotators is to use 3 individual rotators. This is incredibly frustrating for multiple reasons. Using multiple rotators right next to each other often makes weird rotational inertia issues, it's heavy, and it makes the connections really wobbly when you scale down the mass of the rotators, especially on low physics levels.

Adding ball joints will make building complex suspensions systems so much easier, and would be incredibly useful for several functions, aesthetically and functionally.

    @AndrewGarrison . . . How to make them rotate freely without inputs tho?

    @jamesPLANESii I would also suggest increasing slerpMaximumForce on ControlBase via Overload and see if that helps to stabilize the joint. Not sure what setting would be best, but you could try increasing until it seems to help stabilize. (I wouldn't suggest going above 400000.)

    @AndrewGarrison Trying them on my Weka though, I've found them to be very bouncy and adding insane amounts of dampening to them doesn't seem to help much. It would be nice if there were joints that were properly designed to do this without any jankiness, and with cool aesthetics.

    @LotusCarsSub This can actually be done now with the new joystick base part.

    @BreadCarbs same, it's 1.11 and the post was made in 1.9, clearly Jundroo won't make this
    @AndrewGarrison please consider this idea!

    I made this suggestion a long time ago and yeah a lot of people seemed to want it, for one it takes up less room compared to using two hinge rotators, and it would be a lot smoother looking

    Good idea, although im not sure how inputs would work and how it would move corresponding to those inputs.

    this will be super useful!, would also be nice if each axis have their own tabs in Overload soo that each of their input can be customized with FT.

    I don't think the devs have even thought about the user voice in a while.
