GUIDED BOMBS!!!

11.5k shipster  3.9 years ago

Now that I’ve clickbaited you, please do not click away, I have a genuinely good idea.

We need to get the ability to either make missiles not have smoke trails, OR get the ability to make missiles not be propelled. If we don’t, the only way to make a guided bomb is to make it weigh a bajillion pounds, or make it fly like a missile and it’s crappy. It’s such a simple thing, but since I can’t get any attention on my user voice post, I’M SAYING IT HERE

If it doesn’t happen, guided bombs will either be stupid heavy, fly stupidly fast with a smoke trail, or just slow down and stop mid air!!!

    Indeed, I’ve played with your GBs a lot and they seem to perform quite well @Thecatbaron

    Huh, I never had such problems when rescaling missiles, weird @shipster

    When I scale them down it essentially makes them have such low maneuverability that they realistically become unguided rockets @Thecatbaron

    @shipster Oh weird

    Not in my experience, when I put maxSpeed=0, it slows and stops in midair, when you scale it down, it makes it essentially an unguided rocket, MaxFuelTime=0 makes it not guide, etc. I think we just need an option to either get rid of the smoke trails and use MaxSpeed=X and MaxForwardThrustForce=0, or have the option to have the missile not be propelled but still guide.

    I have made these kinds of bombs before, you just need to make the missile super tiny with rescale so the smoke trail is basically invisible, then make the maximum thrust nothing in the xml of the missile. ;) worked for me, should work for you.

    @shipster I thought missiles still guided aerodynamically

    Nah it's not click bait, you can do it in-game already, just needs the bomb attached to a fuselage with a missile on it. The missile can't have any power whatsoever though. I forgot how you do that but it works saw it on something a while back.
    But there's another alternative, just use missiles with a higher explosive value.

    By limiting fuel it simply makes the missile stop guiding once it runs out @AsteroidAsteroidTheBook

    You can do it with a normal missile by having the fuel time be super low, but idk about how heavy the bombs have to be

    That would be pretty cool for modern jets and stuff, I think it would be cool to see.
