Since downloading on Steam, I've been constantly making planes face each other in dogfights. I propose a contest to design the best dogfighter for the simpleplanes AI to pilot and shoot down their foe's. (Being another submitted plane) Might as well create our own competition while waiting for multiplayer mods.
Skynet is coming, why not help?
I'd even stream it on Twitch if there was interest.
(Potential) Rules of the contest:
Each submitted Plane will be pitted in a series of AI vs AI battles. The spawns would be set to "Close," as far away battles tend to turn into one pass death to consistently.
Since spawn positions can have a pretty big impact, each match will be a race to five victories. A victory is defined any time your opponent is destroyed, weather by weapons, or maneuvering.
Since spawns can still affect a shortish series, the tournament would be double elimination, with the winner's side bracket winner only needing a single victory to take the grand final.
If both planes are destroyed, both planes receive a victory tally, however you cannot win a series on a draw. If one player is at four victories, a definitive winner is needed for the series to proceed.
Only one plane per player can be submitted.
For this particular challenge, the rules would be WW2 STYLE that means no jets or rockets. (If this is popular, We can set up different rulesets and even do some AI racing.)
Also I think a maximum of two wing guns or one Gatling gun would be better, as big firepower just destroys planes in one shot. I'm looking for a little bit more drama in the dogfights.
If there is substantial interest, I would be willing to give the overall winner a small prize, (Like a 10-15 dollar game on steam)
So any takers?
@waveofthought Yup. @LukeDaDuke I saw your message, and replied.
@TomServo I'm in just look at reddit post
@TomServo Hey, I sent u my plane on reddit a while ago. Just wanted to make sure you got it: https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/QSW0qD/Rutan-II
@TomServo oh, sorry, I forgot about that one. Thanks for sorting it
@Skua Great! Very close now. Had to take out a couple guns, to make your plane follow the rules.
@TomServo sorry I'm late, here is my entry!
@TomServo cool
@Nightraider Got it thanks!
@TomServo I've made my entry just find it on my airplanes
Here is my revised entry:

EDIT:

Another possible aircraft
Very nice idea! I might link something here soon
@TomServo it sounds like you've thought this through well, I'm excited to see how it goes down. I'll try to create something good for it. Just a couple of questions:
Is XML editing permitted?
Is there a limit on the number of engines we can use?
@TomServo did my plane go thru testing yet? Or is that WIP...? And if it didnt work witht putting on guns or was too slow (stalling at 200 mph) i have reserve aircraft..
Yeah, these are going to be the rules for the first tournament. We'll see how it goes, and the ruleset might change. The idea was to get people thinking simple, because the AI isn't a technical flier. @Kevpilot
Oh I didn't see it is WWII dogfights. Let me know if u keep that wen u finalize the rules @TomServo
@Kevpilot Sure, It has to follow the rules for this contest though. As long as you made it yourself.
I made one to beat a friend, Can I enter it?
@ZFM99 No problem.
@TomServo Oh. sorry
@ZFM99 Also read the post more carefully. The Challenge is WW2 Style with a restriction on guns as well.

@TomServo ok!
@Spikerya For all mobile users, If you want to design a plane for the contest, just leave your comment with a description of where you want the guns to go, and I will put them on for you.
@ZFM99 I don't think so.
sounds like a fun idea
