After putting it off for a long time, I have finally found some time to judge the SPCS Naval Challenge, which, disappointingly only had three entries.
Rankings
- WisconsinStatePolice - K-59b Tanker
- PapaKernels - North American CN-19
- LieutenantSOT - Curtiss XF15C-1
Remarks
K-59b Tanker:
Flight model 5/10
Design 7/10
Landing 3/10
Functionality 7/10
Details 7/10
Total: 40/50
The K-59b Tanker may have won the competition. But it had a few "fatal flaws" namely it was hard to fly steadily, and trying to land on a carrier was atrocious, and hard (at least for me). The plane needed to come in hot, and it didn't help that the flaps were ineffective. However, I really liked the livery as well as the detailing (including the nose radar array and cockpit).
Flight model 5/10
Design 4/10
Landing 8/10
Functionality 5/10
Details 3/10
Total: 25/50
The North American CN-19 was the best flying in my opinion. It was able to fly steadily, and landing was a dream. However, yet again, it lacked flaps that had at least some impact on flight performance. It was also very blocky and ostensibly un-aerodynamic.
Curtiss-XF15C-1:
Flight model 4/10
Design 6/10
Landing 6/10
Functionality 4/10
Details 3/10
Total: 23/50
The Curtiss-XF15C-1 had the worst flight model of all, being not only wobbly, but it would swing and flop up and down like a dying fish. Surprisingly, though, it was very floaty coming down to land and it was a nice experience. However, this plane not only didn't have working flaps, it didn't even have flaps and lacked even a trim stabilizer.
