SAWRAZE EVACUATED AS SKIRMISHES WITH ARMED REBELLIONS CONTINUE
On March 14th of this year, martial law was declared on all islands and all active military units were put on extreme alert due to the presence of an extremely hostile insurrection on Republic Island. Said insurrection initially had the upper hand, catching the already spread thin Armed Forces by complete surprise and forcing them out of Republic Island as a whole.
Now five months later, they are no longer completely relying on the element of surprise, and are attacking with more organized forces and using stolen military equipment as a sort of "mock army". Recently, the island of Sawraze saw a sizable force of rebels invade the southern end of the island, allegedly supported by an unknown third party group with anti-RoS intentions. They attacked at night, and the Army battalion stationed there was caught with their pants down.
Within days, less than half of the island was under the insurrection's control.
They then began to bombard the island's capital city of Walondo, and have only recently began to directly attack the city. The current death toll of the siege is over one thousand, of which most are civilians caught in the crossfire.
The government is aware of the assault, and have ordered a full evacuation of all civilians still left on the island to Sky Park City.
The evacuation is currently underway, with over 3000 residents safely removed from the combat areas within the span of a single week.
President Spencer Hanfad has delivered a speech on the matter, saying that "We have prevailed through atrocities such as this in the past, and we will prevail again today." He urges all able bodied men and women willing to fight join the army, and "Protect our great Republic so it may thrive in a peaceful state once more."
ROSN VICTORY SUNK WHILE TRAVELLING TO SAWRAZE, ALL CREW ON BOARD PERISH
Two days ago at 3:30 AM, the ROSN Victory was travelling from a port on Wright Island to support our ground troops in the fight against the insurrection, along with two frigate escorts. All was well, until the calm of the night sky was interrupted by four explosions, each going off in succession. The ROSN Victory suddenly began to send an SOS message, saying their engine compartments had been completely crippled, and they were taking on water and an extreme rate. The frigate escorts began to maneuver to support the sinking vessel, but by the time they had moved close enough, they were too late.
The Victory sank in around three minutes, bringing all 235 crew members with it, and rendering any recovery operations impossible. The cause of the explosions are still being investigated, but many people seem to agree on the theory that the sinking was caused by insurrectionist troops who had infiltrated the ship and set C4 in areas away from heavy foot traffic. The loss surprised many, as the ship had been the longest serving vessel in the fleet. May the dead rest in peace.
