Saving HUD as subassembly

10.3k VisionAviation  3.0 years ago

Hi,

I've been trying to save text HUDs from other peoples builds, so I can use them on my own builds. However, making them subassemblies seems to break them.

For example, I've tried to use the HUD from Polaris002's A-1 Caracal. Which should look like this:

But when I use it as a subassembly, it looks like this:

The subassembly seems to work fine when I use it in the actual A-1 Caracal, but if I use it in any other build, it breaks.

Anybody know what I need to check for this to work? Is it referring to a build-specific value somewhere?

Thanks in advance!

The variable was reset once you save it to Sub Assembly

@MADDOGLUCAS Alright, download any plane which has a functional HUD. Save this plane in your own SimplePlanes list. Also save the HUD as subassembly.

Now, go to Appdata/locallow/jundroo/simpleplanes/airaft and find the aircraft you just saved. Open the XML.

At the top of the opened XML, you'll see the variables. Copy these. Don't just copy thr variables themselves but copy them from the top word "variable" to the bottom word "variable", including spaces and all that stuff.

Now, just paste this into the xml of the aircraft you want to use the HUD in and it should work. In your plane XML, there should already be one "variable" word by default. Highlight this and paste the HUD variables. The layout should then automatically be correct too.

Lemme know if that helps. I would make screenshots but I'm not at home at the moment.

@BeastHunter Ah right, yeah now it works. I had been looking for a variable in the parts using the overload mod. But I didn't know you could just add them straight into the XML. Thanks!

You need to copy the variables. See the 1 part HUD post for more information.
