Gliders

509 OlafGliders  8.9 years ago

I recently bought this game and have been perplexed with the art of building gliders.
¦
my glider (https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/6ZkyE8/Raven-glider) utilises its weight to gain speed to counter the GPE.
¦
however i have seen designs like ValtsuAircraftIndustries's (https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/4V8A1l/Pro-glider-3-0) that use their sheer wingspan and lightweight to glide at low speeds.
¦
then i see gliders that use conventional teardrop style fusilages (https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/44BU68/OASA-26-long-version) that are larger, and heavyer than smaller ones but may or may not reduce drag.
¦
please leave any tips on building below.

    @ThePrototype That's awesome. I mean the low-speed record ;)

    I hold the record for the slowest flying glider at 17 mph

    Take a look at some of my gliders to give you a small insight on how they can be design the main things when making a glider are that it has to be light weight and usually long wings

    check this out for a low drag craft. just remove the engine and place the wings over the com

    @Brields95 @SalemASaberhagen how about this plane to operate at high speeds for long distances making use of glider techniques

    @Brields95 yes, as you see in all my planes, it can help with gliders to have the CoL higher than the CoM so that pitching back is easier. however for the best results the CoM, CoC, and CoT should be in line facing the direction of thrust.

    Funny you should mention this, as I was going to write a post about building planes. In general, you want the CoM. To be SLIGHTLY ahead of the CoL.
