If you want this, you need go vote for it here ^^
We need a new procedural engine, with a torque curve and a proper sound, that can link to propellers or to a gearbox which can be linked to wheels.
This engine should have a changeable number of cylinders, displacement and configuration (ie, radial, flat, V, inline) and also have options like air or liquid cooled, carburettor or injectors, petrol, avgas or diesel etc.
The quality of engines in the base game is truely miserable at the moment, to the point that they don't even spin at their indicated RPM or make the right tone noise. The advantage of SP over SR2 is it is much more intuitive to make older things, and I think a procedural piston engine will suit the game well.
I see 14 upvotes here but only 13 votes on uservoice. Y'all if you want this, you need to vote for it on uservoice. Upvoting this forum does nothing but keep it near the top of the forums page for longer.
I imagine this will be a difficult thing to implement, but I mean jet engines in SR2 can do something similar to this so I don't see why this can't be done for SP.
I don't mind if this takes a while to implement either.
I agree I also think we should have more engine types in general
Like the suggestion. I put 3 votes. It should replace the original, non-procedural engine.
@jamesPLANESii Sorry, the link is blocked for me, but ill still upvote this.
i need better jet engines to match performance curves and not just linear 😭
reason why planes dont get faster as you go faster, everything uses linear models
Legend!
Absolutely agree
if we could just get an update to overhaul engines at this point I'd be happy
Also sounds suck lol - literally can't hear the aircraft approach at all it's terrible
