Shortly before the Second World War ended in 1944, Boeing began revising their design for the B-29 which was already becoming outdated, and as such, they began planing on building a completely new version of this aircraft. It would include redesigned engine nacelles that would hold newer Pratt and Whitney engines, which would later be the infamous "corncob" PW 4360 Wasp Major. Powered by four of these and the removal of the gun turrets except the rear one let the aircraft sustain a higher max cruise speed of 260 miles per hour.
The aircraft began construction in 1947, and the B-29 was taken out of service shortly thereafter. The newer airframes had elongated fuselages, and eventually were retrofitted to have two suspended jet engines and increased fuel tanks to effectively put one of the first dedicated aerial tankers in service. The aircraft was eventually put out of service in 1965 when metal fatigue was discovered, before the B-54, an even further modified B-50, could be constructed with the revolutionary PW 4360 turbo-compound 4,000 HP engines which were also intended for the B-36C that was never built, as piston aircraft were becoming more and more irrelevant. This aircraft served for almost 20 years, and is almost not known at all, comparable to the B-29s that were modified under the Silverplate program to drop the nuclear weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
'Till next time, mates
This is actually one of my favorite bombers because of the unique dome shaped cockpit in the nose.
@PapaKernels 😅 we don't talk about that...
@Sparky6004 @Dathcha 💀
@BeastHunter alright. I gotcha mate
@LieutenantSOT (been working on the 36 for how many months now?)
Cool little aircraft.
💀 @Sparky6004
Never forgot
💀
@LieutenantSOT T on Those Then.
@BeastHunter Sorry! XD
I am not working on a B-50, although if you'd like, I could build a KB-50J one day
.
Right now, I am working on three other projects, one is a fictional heavy bomber/hydroplane, and then my B-36 project, and I am currently making a Cessna 337 (teaser will be out soon)
