I know that's a hell of a title, but read on, because this idea can enable a lot of new methods of aircraft design in SimplePlanes.
Yesterday I tried building a heavy bomber that utilized a pair of rotation blocks combined with structural panels to create an opening and closing bomb bay. Unfortunately, I couldn't extend the panels to the midpoint (which would completely close the bay), without the game attaching them to one another, which made the bay doors either fail to open or swing out with half the assembly attached to the other.
Thus, I propose adding toggles to the attachment points of certain components to allow them to function separately, but still maintain symmetry along the middle of the aircraft.

@Flightsonic i figured it out, thanks
@Sirstupid the numpad keys, on the left of most keyboards, able to be configured on PC
This thread brings up another issue. I want to be able to upvote people's posts inside a thread.
How?@Flightsonic
If you're using PC, the numpad can be used to "nudge" parts small amounts each axis
Just to wrap things up, I built a simple "proof of concept" and have posted it for the perusal of anyone curious.

nice, there is a complicated xml job you can do to get rid of attach points but dont recommend it.
@TheLatentImage I'll give that a go, thanks.
Here's a fix, the two panels that meet in the middle need to have connection points that offset each other. If they line up, then they are going to connect. Leave one in the middle, then make the other like two spaces down, then readjust your borders to get the shape back. The bay will be closed and you won't have to worry about them sticking together.

@KevinMurphy
i agree! i have had this problem myself and thought about suggesting that we could toggle attachment points but never got around to it.
@CDUflappy I have, and the only solution is to reduce the width of the panels so that they don't completely enclose the bomb bay, which rather ruins the effect, I feel.
I dont really know exactly what your trying to do but have you tried taking apart some of the nearby parts which these rotators are snapping to or mirroring some parts?
