Hey, I am blunderbird, usually known as the lobster-telephone guy, I have been a part of the simpleplanes community on and off for 3.5 years and have been playing the game for more than 4 years now. Full disclosure, I am an android player. For the last 5-6 months i had completely disconnected myself from the community partly because of work pressure and partly because the whole "android hate" thing. I came back a week or two ago and discovered even the slither of mod support that existed for androids, is also gone. The old mapfiles I had still work with the current version of the game. So why doesnt the same maps have the android download button? I dont know.
It is understandable that android players negging for a android version of a mod to an individual creator is irritating to said creator. Its justifies the negetive stigma created around "le android users".
But as a creator i can tell you that mod support is pretty important to me. And hundreds of other players. Having access to custom maps can help when making a trailer or taking screenshots of your build.
I understand unity doesnt have mod support anymore and I dont know why the android download button vanished. But I know nothing can be done about any of them by you or me.
So I propose a solution. A reposetory of android-capable mod/map files (emphasis on maps) for anyone who wants to download them. If a mod maker wants they can add their own file to the reposetory, if they dont, no one will neg them to (very wishful thinking, I am aware). If you already posses a android capable modfile that is no longer downloadable, you can add it the reposetory as well. And thanks to Modern Technology™ this can be made easily through sites such as discord even.
So, Please be civil and discuss...
Is this doing the big existence?
@PhilipTarpley even that is great dude. Thanks for doing this.
But one could in theory test their maps on android and declare if it is supported or not. I know thats even more wishful thinking but its the best I could think of.
@LieutenantSOT I'm just talking about looking into the feasibility of custom maps, not full, and general mod support fyi.
I'm surprised the mods are on to try and bring them back, but the reason they were disabled almost a year ago was due to a new policy with both Google Play and the App Store in regards to how the code of Unity is allowed to be modified. And as such, they are no longer allowing external Unity modifications
.
However, as Philip stated before, there are source codes you can use to try and modify it yourself, but it could damage the game if you do it wrong
@SheriffHackdogMCPE not discrimination bud. I'd say prejudice
@NakAk wdym? This isn't a teaser
T
@BlunderBirb what is "android hate" is that discrimination against android users?
@PhilipTarpley yeah this has been getting on my nerves since I started playing sp (I started playing SP shortly after mod support was removed) but I hope there are other solutions
Mods which contain nothing but custom maps, and which also contain no non-standard Unity shaders should work on Android, but our mod tools currently have no way of verifying this, which is why we don't have them available here.
There is (as you've noted), nothing stopping people from attempting to load mods themselves, which we've purposefully done to not take the option off the table for those who want to try them.
Even a single script could make the entire mod not function properly, and with the availability of so many free Unity assets, which may contain seemingly trivial scripts, the chance of what seems like a pure map mod not working is fairly high.
I had two map files pampangga and wake island gis, which still work in 1.12.
@Korzalerke they are more than usable in most cases.
@PhilipTarpley Do you know the reason as to why maps can't be downloaded even though they still work fine?
@BlunderBirb Are the maps buggy? I heard before they still work so i'm not sure why they were also removed.
@Korzalerke read the whole thing. Some maps still work
Here's the reason
So... sorry, but mobile mods aren't ever coming back.
