Kamikaze attacks were used by the Imperial Japanese Military as a last ditch effort to stop America from reaching mainland Japan.
America used the island hopping technique and it was very effective. In October 1944, Kamikaze pilots were introduced. Japan wasn't concerned about the resources lost in each attack. They were only focusing on keeping their homeland safe. America was going to invade Japan after the last island in the island hopping campaign was taken, but they decided it would be dangerous and it was estimated that over 1 million American soldiers would have died in the invasion. So they used nukes.
Japan thought surrender was the worst thing a soldier could do, so Japanese soldiers often committed suicide instead of surrendering. Thats why they Kamikazed enemies, because they didn't want to surrender. Not just Ohkas were used as Kamikaze planes. If a pilot ran out of ammunition during an attack, they had two options. 1) they could go back to base and rearm. 2) they could commit suicide. A lot of pilots chose to Kamikaze. Kamikaze pilots were intended to stop American forces from reaching Japan. They failed, obviously.
Hope that helps.
Honestly if American ships let them even get that close why not just get close drop bombs and fly away. Saves pilots planes and also this dumb looking plane would never have been created. T
Still a WIP, and I can hear y’all going “what about the other builds?!” Don’t worry! I won’t finish them either!

@Dathcha
The japs saw suicide as the most honourable way to die. Surrender was unthinkable, until Japan actually surrendered.
I mean yeah i knew that but its still a dumb option. @ColonelCanada

it's a very sad story this aircraft holds.

Also, I don’t think even the pilot finds the airplane funny.
