(Tutorial) How To Change Fuel Consumption And Noise For Jet Engines:

27.8k TheFlightGuySP  2.5 years ago

This is just a brief instructional forum for people who were wondering how to do this, or if it was even possible.

Select your jet engine, then open the XML editor. Go to "InputController" using the drop-down menu at the top, and find where it says "max", this is the maximum input range for whatever input is listed, and the value should be "1" by default. Changing this value will change the noise, fuel consumption, and the exhaust trail by the same number. For example: changing "max" to "10" means that the engine is 10 times loud, uses 10 times the amount of fuel, and the exhaust trail is 10 times as long. You can also set this value to something less than 1, for example: 0.5. However, I don't think this works on propeller engines, because they have a more complicated operation than jet engines in Simpleplanes, mainly they are limited by their RPM.

On a side note: be careful not to set the value too high, otherwise you will create a horrible noise that might cause your speakers to explode. If you do intend to set the value ridiculously high, keep the volume low, and it might be best not to wear headphones.

Thoughts or suggestions? Let me know!

    @griges I personally don't have much experience with interior parts. I've tried custom button inputs before but ran into problems. I'd post a forum about it and wait for someone with more experience to answer.

    @TheFlightGuySP sorry, do you know
    How to make button click counter?
    I've tried the
    Button input Increase and Decrease with both variable setter value 0

    And text showing value with variable setter value ; Valueincrease-Valuedecrease

    in the setter Valueincrease ; Valueincrease + Increase

    and Valuedecrease ; Valuedecrease + Decrease

    And set the botton xml to once

    Wich step i missed?
    Or its not it?

    @griges That might be a good place to start. Like I said, I have very little experience with PID controllers and only know the basics. It'll likely take a while to get it tuned just right.

    Also, no problem! If you want, you can bookmark this page to your browser so you can refer back to the comment.

    @TheFlightGuySP oh dang
    You do explain this in the way i can understand

    So?
    For example i want an auto level
    I should put in wings
    PID(0,RollAngle,0.001[the amount aileron output?],1/2[quick at what rate? Ex anglepersecond(was1/2is 2secs?)],0.01[the damper?]

    How can i put your comment so i can access later

    @griges
    The Target is the value you want the controller to achieve.

    The Current is the variable that you want to be controlled (it can be Altitude, AngleOfAttack, or pretty much any data value). The controller will attempt to change whatever the Current is so that it's equal to the Target value.

    The p value (proportional) is how much output the controller should give.
    The i value (integral) is how quickly the controller should try to meet the Target value.
    The d value (derivative) is how careful the controller should be. This is to prevent overcorrecting/overshooting the target value. It's essentially an input dampener for the controller.

    The Target, p, i, and d values are supposed to be numbers (though I'm pretty sure the Target value can be a different data value as well).

    The format should look like this: PID(Target, Current, p, i, d).
    An example of what this could look like: PID(0, AngleOfAttack, 0.005, 0.001, 0.0025).

    @TheFlightGuySP i read that several times
    But my smol bren couldn't understand it

    I dont know whats "target&current" is and for
    Was it for like if i want to
    (Target)altitude=1000,( current) altitude
    And what value is i can enter to p,i,d
    And where to implement those values? Like rotators,engines,etc

    Im just a new guy, didnt even know xml
    All i learnt is from here
    And most of tutorials using less explanation and examples unlike yours

    @griges I've considered this.
    I have a bit of experience using PID controllers, but not enough to make a forum about it.
    There's actually a Funky Trees guide that breaks down PID controllers here.

    Does that also changes thrust?

    1.6 years ago
  • Profile image

    @Ghaves Sadly you can't.
    There are some ways to get around this problem, but you can't change fuel consumption and noise values independently.
    Of course, you can change power output. But like I said, fuel consumption can't be modified without changing noise.
