Hey guys!
Relatively new to the game, so possibly just a noob question...
But how are you guys getting so much detail into your builds? just had a look at the BaE Hawk that Skua made, and I'm blown away by the detail. How are you getting parts to overlap without the game throwing a fit? is it just patience or something obvious I'm missing?
Cheers!
~Chuckie
Thanks for the advice everyone :)
Just want to get into making more complex detailing so i can make some decent builds to showcase on my youtube channel once I get more of a following :)
@Chuckie if you're lookin for small, finely placed details then you're going to have to do some xml editing. There's only so much that you can achieve in the editor. There's a bit of a learning curve, but it is certainly nothing that should deter you from giving it a shot.
@Mod Well, you can do it on iOS, but it requires either A. JB , or B. iOS version lower than 8.3(which means you can use one of the file viewers/editors to edit the XML's by extracting the XML, editing it on the computer, and putting it back in)
@Chuckie Well, there is part clipping. I was one of the first to use part clipping, as I accidentally stumbled on it and then a few people taught me more. I only got into XML modding a few months ago, but without it, builds like this and this would be, to put it simply, impossible.
Now, back to part clipping. There are many ways to do it. One is using fuselage parts and adjusting them so they clip over each other, another is rotation the part once to get it to 'stick'. And there is also nudging, which allows for certain things that normally would be impossible without XML(like putting a VTOL inside an aircraft without it sticking out)
@TheLatentImage Im currently using SimplePlanes on PC :)
is there any easier way of getting that detail into the builds without having to route around text files?
@Skua I've got a great love for the Red Arrows and have been lucky enough to sit inside one, beautiful aircraft, and beautifully recreated in the game :)
I'm glad you liked it. I can confirm the other answers, it was done through extensive xml editing. You can edit the xml with any text editor - even Word if you want - but something like Notepad++ usually makes it easiest. Latent is really good at this stuff, check out his Do-335
Chuckie, what platform are you using?
Some of it can be achieved though xml editing, but you can do quite a lot though just the editor alone. Trial and error was the greatest teacher for me.
Okay, cheers for the input! :)
@Chuckie yes. There are some free apps that you can get to actually mod special parts.
.xml file editing? is there a program to do so? or just... as Swat said, MAGIC!?
The main reason is .xml file editing. I don't know how thay get THAT much detail, so I use some mind tricks on the game. I don't have the skill, nor the patience for .xml edits.
