I made it so that the waffle seemed to be eaten by tearing off the layers, so now it's a battle-battered Luftwaffle

but your advice is interesting, I have a couple of ideas how to do it
Maybe try to make the main wings thinner and stab a metal wire trough it so it will stay rugged
