A month after the BraniffAir Boeing 747 shoot down, an Aurora Airlines MD-11 freighter crashed on approach to Avalanche. Aurora-1736 came in for a landing to runway 02 at Avalanche cargo base, and at the final turn to runway 02, it’s wing collided with Avalanche hill, sheering off the aileron and wingtip, causing the plane to go into a right hand bank, slamming into the hill just 5 seconds after initial impact. The 4 crew members went down with the wreckage after it rolled down the hill and into the sea. This has became the worst crash at Avalanche since BRAN-2543, the 747-400 that was shot down.
