Disaster at Wright Airport

14 Chernobia  2.2 years ago

A Dash 9 dual propeller aircraft, designated WESTJET-3409, crashed on approach to runway 09. While coming in for a landing, the #2 engine caught fire, shutting the engine down immediately. The shut-down engine created enormous drag, drifting the plane to the right and deeming the plane uncontrollable. The Dash 9 slammed head first into the ground just beside the runway, sheering off the left wing and the eppenage. The plane ascended into the air for 10 seconds before overturning and laying to rest just past the numbers of the runway. Out of the 23 survivors, only 6 would escape the wreckage, 2 people would succumb to their injuries 1 month after the crash, leaving the survivor count to 4.
