On October 30, 2009, an Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia crashed into the volcano on a flight from North Wright Airport to Yeager Airport. Just 5 minutes before scheduled to land, The airplane went off radar. Coast Guard was deployed to the last area it was seen at. Coast Guard found Flight 122’s wreckage and 4 Chinook helicopters were deployed to the scene. Out of the 16 passengers, 3 flight attendants, and 2 pilots, only 14 survived. Both pilots, a flight attendant, and 4 passengers were killed. The cause was ruled out to be pilot error leading to CFIT.
