@HuskyDynamics01 yeah most ships i do know used steam power. But i do remember when i was on USS New Jersey or Massachusetts they did say that the USN refitted their warships with diesel. Or i may be stoopid and they didnt do this, and i just think they did. Mightve heard the tour guide wrong i guess.
EDIT: Okay, i just found out that on USS New Jersey, they did use diesel. But only to make steam. They got seawater from well, the sea, and then diesel to heat the water up creating steam. Which well, made the ship move. So technically yeah? they did use diesel? They used diesel just to make steam.

Jeeps (and most other ground vehicles, even larger trucks) ran on gasoline. The main Army usage of diesel was for certain models of the Sherman medium tank. The Army preferred gasoline for standardization. (I've heard that the Marines picked diesel for the same reason, but haven't found any info on that).

As far as the Navy goes, most ships had emergency generators that ran on diesel (though the ships themselves were almost always steam-powered) and various models of landing craft and Higgins boats had diesel engines, but by far the largest user would have been the diesel-electric submarine fleet.

Yes I'm pretty sure if you look at the jeeps I'm pretty sure they use diesel engines
