When Fighter jets often get compared we use western jets(US, Europe) vs eastern jets(Russia, China), but i argue that there are three types, Western (US, Japan) Eastern(Russia, and China), and European(France, Sweden, U.K. Germany).
they have a different type of roles, purposes, and made for specific missions. True some fighters from each have similar roles but they are pretty different

Western fighters are designed for carrying large amounts of armament, High performance, and sometimes a set role. They western style fighters are more technologically advanced using advanced avionics, weapon systems, and some utilize stealth.
Eastern Fighters are among the least advanced with a few exceptions. but are known for the high speeds, maneuverability, and better dog fighting capabilities.
European fighters are designed for air defense and are defined by the canard Delta wing design
