Firstly, you may ask: why am I making trains now?
Even though I'm a fan of aviation, I do like trains a lot. (I actually like quite a lot of forms of transportation, to a certain extent.)
And since I'm almost at platinum (just 200 more points lol), I'm preparing something train-related (you'll know it when I make an announcement.)
However, what I planned initially involved SimplePlanes Railway, which you all know is a mod that can only be accessed by PC. And it would be a shame if only PC users (which are relatively few) would be able to enjoy my platinum special.
So, I thought, what if I made a railway... for mobile?
Introducing SimplePlanes Mobile Railway, better known as SPMR.
Is it even possible???
Well, kinda.
It won't be an actual mod (because obviously I don't know how to mod yet), but it'll be made out of fuselages.
How it works is that the train still "drives" on the road, but 2 fuselage rails will guide the train along a set route (yeah like a railway).
After countless hours of experimenting (that took my life and soul), I can conclude... that this concept indeed works!
Train used for testing: CR929thenewspplayer's Toronto Rocket
Current plan
The track will loop around the runways at Yeager Airport (because it has the most space), and there will be 4 stations total.
The stations will be metro-like, but they won't be too awkward for commuter, bullet and freight trains to travel through.
And, finally:
Should I build it?
Now, you may be wondering: This plan is already so detailed, why do you still want me to ask?
Well, let me admit that my dedication span is extremely low, about 2 weeks maximum. I may be passionate about SPMR right now, but in the future I may lose motivation to build it.
Additionally, I've seen that the demand for trains on this site is really low, and out of all forms of transportation on SP, trains take up quite a minority. Although the entire point of SPMR is to resurrect the trains, I still want to know: if I were to build and publish it, would you guys want it? If ultimately there's no point in building the railway, I definitely won't spend a precious 50+ hours making it.
If you support the mobile railway, comment or upvote down below (I value comments more).
Your response may very well influence the fate of SPMR.
Congrats for the 25K! Welcome to the platinum!!!
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes YES! BUILD IT!
I don't care I want itttt
@AlivePan lmao
Yo, BIG congrats on reaching platinum, my man! =D
dude is making a whole fucking metro while im here struggling to make an F-15SG
@BoeyingOfficial I set the mass scale of the railway to 100, so it stays put.
Doesn't the whole railway construction shake when the wheels collide with it?
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes I'd upvote no problem. Sounds like a great idea
Congrats on PLATINUM!
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes you deserve platinum soon I'll be at gold You Put Time Into Builds Which Is Why You Deserve Platnium
@Talon7192 thanks, I saw! I didn’t expect to wake up and check my phone to realise that I got platinum overnight lol.
I’ll make an announcement later by the way.
Yes do it!
Btw your plat now!👏
yes
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes I helped get you there :D
I think you should make
@RailfanEthan yeah, which is why the experimenting took forever.
For this system, I found out that the rails have to be wider than the bogies, because like I mentioned this “railway” is just a guiding system for the train that’s actually driving on the road.
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes Congrats on platinum!
PLATINUM LETS GOOOOOOOO
i tried doing this a few times
it becomes a pain when you realize how whack the wheel hitboxes are and try making it work with fuselage blocks
Definitely built it. Not only will it appeal to train enthusiasts, but it could be used as a launch platform for aircraft and gliders.
In fact if someone were to put a winch on it they would have a perfect winch tow system for a glider. I could see someone like @TheGliderGuy laying out a whole winch track line on Wright Island or Maywar based on your concept.
So this might get more than just the train people excited.
PLATNIUMMMK
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes look at you score
I think I got you to platinum
If you can, you make.
If you don't want to, you don't.
That's it.
