Tag lists.

234k jamesPLANESii  1.2 years ago

In recent times on this website, people have found out that if you create a tag list for all your posts, you can gain dousens more upvotes on your builds.
Here are my thoughts:

I'm kinda against this. Reason being, the only thing that's in it for the user making the tag list is more upvotes on their stuff. People will deny that this is the primary reason and instead claim things like "I actually don't really care about points" (bruh you wouldn't do this if you didn't lmao) or "I want to make sure all my friends to see my post" (which IMO is fair-ish but still leads back to the more points trope). To me it just seems kinda imoral in the fact that you only get this if you make a post about this asking people, which IMO is kinda the wrong way around.

Solution

Obviously, this exploit works because a lot of people do actually want to be tagged on people's builds. They want to be notified that someone has released something in the same place that they receive notifications for replies and stuff, as it pretty much gaurentees they'll see the post, which a lot of people like, especially if they follow a lot of people.

So I suggest adding a new button next to the follow button that turns on notifications. Yes... like YouTube.
I mean, it's basically the same effect as a tag list, just it doesn't take someone to make a post begging people to allow them to tag you on all their posts, making it a more even playing field. It would also be good if there was an option to get tagged on forums they post, since a lot of people like that too.

I also suggest adding a special button in teaser posts, that if you press it, when build that the teaser is related to gets released, people who pressed the button will get a notification. This would make it much easier for the poster compared to having to tag every single person who comments "T" on the post too.

OK that's all

I do kinda agree. I'm on a couple of these autotags and I don't really mind, but I'll be totally honest, the community is small enough that I see pretty much every halfway decent build that shows up. It's actually been a while since I just downloaded something to fly it around, I really prefer building and interacting with the community.

The "T for Tag" thing I actually do support, because it's getting notified for a specific thing that you're interested in.

I agree but on the other hand i couldn't give two hoots what other people do on the site 😂. It would be nice the be notified on when someone who you follow uploads a build as I've been absent from the site for say a day or two and i miss that they upload so it would be nice but not the end of the world. I like points especially being close to that 50k milestone but im not going out of my way to get more points. If i get 20 updoots on a post oh well, if i get more then that's fine too. Aint a perfect science until you become a massive name in the community imo.

    hhey guyse, cigy here
the solution to this already exists, its called the jet stream.
now i can already here the replies 'bbut kagy how can i see everyones posts?'
to that i say skill issue you dont need to live and breath the website lmao

i cant understand tag lists, just use what we have - besides the whole purpose of the points system was to reward you for making good builds that people think are good - not just 'oh its my friend's plane so ill upvote it'
if i dont think someone's build is good and they ask for criticism i will tell them that lol

that is all, please use your jet stream.

Along with that, when you follow someone, also get notified when they make forum posts. I think this would help a lot with that, otherwise you're left looking through a bunch of other post before you find the one you actually want.

I like being tagged on people's builds because it's very hard to keep up with upvoting other people. I actually prefer to be tagged, that way I can just follow the tag and upvote the post. It saves me time... Z😺
