So I've finally chosen to start work on a big project! After finally re-downloading War Thunder, I've gotten re-attached to the F2G-1 Super Corsair, and I've decided to start working on it before I loose interest (average ADHD brain).
At the moment I'm studying the design of the Super Corsair, which involves looking at images, looking at the War thunder model, and reading the Wiki.
So here's my question. At the moment I'm looking at some Google images to study the shape and I've noticed that some models and images had a "bulge" on the top of the cowl over the engine.
At first I assumed it was a supercharger or turbocharger but after looking at images of the F2G engine I see it already has a turbo under the engine. Anyone know what That massive scoop is for?
for context I'm going to make the massive scoop a different downloadable configuration. I'm going to make the normal version first. The massive scoop looks like It would block a lot of your front view tbh.
@PriusCat good to know I’m not the only one who uses war thunder for 3d models
@HuskyDynamics01 huh, good to know. That sure is a weird shape for a carburetor air intake. Now I’m kinda curious how it looks like inside lol.
Took a bit of research, but I figured it out!
The F2G had a very limited production run, so there was a lot of trial and error involved and different configurations of various components were tested. One such component that underwent multiple iterations was the carburetor air intake; the hump atop the cowling was one (especially prominent) configuration (here's an image showing the inlet itself, though a few other configurations also were tested.
Update; even more confused...
Looking at other engine images and the turbocharger looking thing isn't there... I'm going to assume it doesn't have it
