So recently there’s been a bit of a concerning chain of events going on on site.
I’m here to give my point of view in light of this situation.
From my experience, I haven’t been very active on the site but I do actively play the game because it’s fun and whenever I feel like sharing, I do this intermittently. Unfortunately back in the past it was all about me and the numbers. With time though, I started to realize that it wasn’t fun on the site. And this reflected by some individuals on the site in the following ways.
First, a quantity of builds. I’ve seen that a few individuals are driven by how many builds they can upload and how many points they can collect from this enterprise. Now to be frank, this is what may have some people reeling in the comments. Nobody is prompting you to do this. Internet points are as the name puts it, internet points. If it’s your only form gratification, then that’s an issue. Not everyone will appreciate it or at least acknowledge that. If that same motivation can be placed to making something modest or decent, then time isn’t going to be a problem.
Further to add on, is the forums. A lot of things are be shared on the forums. However not everything is meant to be posted on this site. As per rules state. I do of course want to go on the whole hiatus and break posts. Honestly, it doesn’t affect anyone’s state of being, life goes on whether you’re on or off the site. It comes off as quite narcissistic if you think about it. It doesn’t impact anyone in any capacity. I in my view feel that it’s point farming period.
From there, now we go to feedback. If anyone is able to take in advice, it’s basically a gift. It’s how you can grow and mature your builds over time if that’s what you choose. However there’s been a bit of standoff behavior that builders exhibit towards feedback. Mostly just driven by points or just a superficial schedule. That’s fine if you don’t make your personality at the end. It’s a simply a game. That’s all there is to it. They’re going to be people that like one build over yours regardless of time or effort that you might have put into it. It’s not always going to be the standard.
So to wrap things up, there’s always room to improve and grow in the community. Always give time if you have to, be humble, and most importantly, be open and willing to learn new things.
The world doesn’t just revolve around you building a tube with wings, if said tube with wings was made honestly. In the end there’s thousands of users who play this game. We are no different from each other. For those who can actually want to take this advice, do so at your discretion.
Keep responses civil
Very true
@5 LOL
@TheOfficalMarylander hope it’s temporary because I need to unfollow him
@LM0418 just saw he got terminated lol idk if its perma or temporary
@DaddysTruck1234 @TheOfficalMarylander just to clear things up, DaddysTruck is an absolute 5 yr old who wants to get more attention than his average screen time, don’t waste your time on him. And all he says is lies. Trust me.
@TheOfficalMarylander yes
@SILVERPANZER there’s a lotta weird people online lol
@OwO OH, THE FURRY UPDATE ONE RIGHT?! I was so fucking mad it was removed, whats so wrong with expressing yourself(while obviously abiding by the rules). There is just many trolls out there, but soon enough they die from Type 81 Diabetes.
@SILVERPANZER thats just false, not saying that there isn't any bad platinum users cough cough BogdanX cough cough but there is still some really nice platinum users out there that not only took valid criticism quite well, but are also in general a nice person that will also help low ranking users on how to make nice things by themselves with some helpful tutorial!
I got a post removed because no one can manage their own behavior online, and people reported my post so much and the comments were horrendous. why do people take a dying website and make it their life
@DaddysTruck1234 is this and this you?
Racist, tells people to kys, and is rude to new players. Alright then. sure.
@XEP interesting
@XEP so from you’re point of view you’re better off handling things with a hammer?
@XEP well it was never meant to be seen as a skill indicator in the first place. Anyone can achieve that.
@XEP I’ve been in a school before, an over generalization of that statement doesn’t suggest it’s true. Plus I’m just advocating. The mods are the driving force and it’s simply their job to restore order.
@SILVERPANZER I've seen this several times. There's some gold players that are guilty of this as well.
There's a good few users on the site that are pretty egocentric I've noticed.
Ultimately, people need to stop viewing their rank as an indicator of superiority. In the end, we're all a bunch of vehicle nerds who love playing a plane building game.
@XEP now I’d like to address this statement.
The amount of points one gets doesn’t equal building skill. It’s purely dependent on user preferences to the build. The point system is no indication of one’s build’s potential. It’s simply arbitrary.
@XEP That’s because it’s been allowed to precipitate. I’m merely pointing out a problem and it’s up to them to change. Again a lot of these users are kids essentially.
@SILVERPANZER 1) it's fine to play the game however you want to. For instance, I don't try to chase internet points (anymore) and I'm happier that way.
2) yeah your point about social significance is sadly spot on. I find myself surprised when a bronze or silver player posts something halfway decent. However, it is important to realize that as EternalDarkness told me once, the points system is meant as "an indicator of skill and popularity". And chasing this number is just a way to try and convince yourself you have that skill and popularity. That said, point count can be a terrible indicator of skill and popularity at times.
@32 About points is not entirely true, and here are the reasons:
1) Player's goal. Take any other game as an example, for example World of Tanks, where players strive to achieve a high percentage of wins and average damage, this is the player’s goal, in CS GO this is a high rank and there are many other examples.
2) Social significance. Although it may sound rude, no one cares about white, bronze and silver players, and gold and platinum players have a high value in the SP community. The departure of a platinum player is a much more tragic event in the SP community than the departure of a bronze or silver player. I myself was a “nobody and nothing” in the SP community until I became gold and only then they began to pay attention to me.
@32 I can relate. When I was still at bronze, I made a post announcing I'd be gone for two days. Never occurred to me that the chances of someone wanting to contact me were negligible at best.
Fortunately a moderator (DeezDucks) explained that it was unnecessary.
It was a good learning experience.
yea I would agree with your post. If you want to play for internet points, go ahead, but you will gain nothing except internet points (kinda useless imo). If you chase after some superficial form of fulfillment, you're not going to get anything out of it in the end.
The "I'm leaving" posts are funny to me.
I personally have posted two. One was a stupid "I'm leaving the website for three days but don't worry I can still access it on my computer."
That was the most cringe thing I've ever said, and I later deleted it.
The second one was to inform some people that were asking for screenshots that I would not be available to help them for a little while. The second one actually served a purpose, the first one was not useful in any way and is actually quite embarrassing.
Glory to SPSC! Glory to WiiMini! Glory to Knightofren!
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes also, most if not all moderators are busy rn, so... what are we gonna do then if there are people breaking the rules?
