Episode 4: Beasts from the North Part 2

At around 7am in Gensokyo, a massive artificial Wrap portal opens in the sky, then, 5 Russian fighter squadrons fly out from the portal, 3 of them are SU-35 squadrons and the other 2 are MiG-21Z squadrons (stealth MiG-21, looks like this), each squadron has 7 planes, all of them are currently unarmed, there’s no missile onboard any plane. Following right behind them is an IL-76 cargo plane, it carries the weapons for both the fighter squadrons and Squadron X. All planes then land at SAAC airport factory. After landing, the pilots get out of their planes to greet everyone and have a break, at the same time, the IL-76 unloads its cargos which are all missiles and smart bombs. The IL-76 also carries an airport ground crew, after the weapons are out of the plane, the ground crew gets to work, loading the weapons onto the aircraft. After all the normal weapons are loaded onto the squadrons’ planes, a crew member goes to ask Snow Demon:
“Sir, you ordered some experimental weapons yesterday right?”
“Yes.” Snow Demon replies
“So… how can we put them on? Your plane doesn’t have any wing pylon.”
“No, I didn’t order them for me.”
The guy seems surprised, he then asks: “So, who did you order them for?”, Snow Demon points his finger to his right, the guy follows his finger and he is pointing at Sanae’s plane,
“Wait, so those are for your daughter?”
“Yes, and she will fight the enemy’s naval fleet head-on.”
“Uhm, hey, don’t you think it’s a bit risky? She’s your daughter after all.”
“It’s okay, her two goddesses, Suwako and Kanako, they told me that she has fought a lot of opponents that would simply be impossible for us to fight against during her time here in Gensokyo, so anti-air wouldn’t be a problem for her. Moreover, the weapons I ordered are highly explosive and destructive, she should be able to take care of them quickly.”
“Alright… Crew! Bring the experimental missiles, we gonna mount them on this plane here!”
While the missiles are being mounted onto Sanae’s plane, she wakes up from her sleep, she then walks out and stands next to Sokolóv, she sees her plane is being armed and has a little chat with Sokolóv, then she goes to change her pajamas to flightsuit. After the arming is done, all aircrafts are refueled to full tank in order to fight because it’s gonna be a long battle. It’s 8 am when the preparation is completed.

At 9am, the siren from the RN Shtorm is activated, the blood curdling sound of the siren blares across the entire Gensokyo, the enemy has arrived, their fleet this time has 24 ships, it has the supercarrier JN Shokaku, Zuikaku’s sister ship; the JN Zuikaku and JN Kaga, a double decker straight deck supercarrier. The squadrons quickly scramble and take off quickly, Sanae stays behind and engage later. The RSNF also finished preparing and sets sail out onto the battlefield. On the other side, the Shokaku launches the Orochi squadron, Shinigami’s crew, other carriers also launches some fighter squadrons as well. The two sides are going head-on at each other. When the air forces get close to each other, Shinigami finally notices Snow Demon’s T-60, his eyes widen then his face changes into an angry expression.
Shinigami: “Snow Demon.”
Sokolóv: “Grim Reaper, didn’t think of the day that we would meet each other again.”
Shinigami: “You surely is a bad omen, but I won’t go down so easily this time.”
Sokolóv: *Chuckle “We’ll see.”
Right after Sokolóv finished his sentence, the Squadron X engages in a Sun Burst formation before turning back at the Orochi squadron, they dive down at the Orochi squadron and fire their gun, forcing the pilots to break from their formation, but Grim Reaper’s squadron has 8 members compares to Squadron X’s 5 members so after breaking away, they starts going two-on-one with some Squadron X’s pilots, specifically Snow Rose, Golden Eagle and Terminator, Arctic Wolf fights with the second in command and Snow Demon fights with Shinigami. The ones that fight with Snow Rose are rookies of the squadron, they use F-2 and F-15J, they’re new and quite cocky, but they quickly learn that Snow Rose isn’t someone that they can mess with. They fire 4 missiles at her but Roza keeps calm and wait for the missiles to get close, when they’re close, she pitches up sharply, using the thrust vectoring nozzles to force the aircraft into a backflip, the missiles fly right by and at the same time she presses the gun trigger while forcing the aircraft’s nose to point downward. The F-2’s pilot has no time to react and flies by right beneath the SU-57X while it’s firing and there’s a clear line of bullet holes on the body, the F-2 has to retreat away. Then Snow Rose pitches her aircraft up to gain speed and chase the F-15J, she fires a single R-77M missile at the enemy, the pilot starts popping flares but it’s no use because the R-77M is a radar and visual guided missile, realizing that he can’t evade, he jettisons all the missiles and fuel tanks onboard, the missile explodes and does some serious damage to the F-15J, but it’s still able to fly and the aircraft retreats back to the Shokaku. Next up is Golden Eagle, he is chased by two Mitsubishi F-3. He intentionally trick the two F-3s to fly close to him, when they’re close enough, he performs a quick cobra maneuver to get behind them, when the aircraft’s nose points back down, one of them is already in his gunsight so he presses the trigger and lights it up, the F-3 only has a pair of ruddervators, one of the bullets manages to hit at the joint and breaks the right tail off, the pilot luckily manages to retreats away in the middle of an air battlefield with only one tail and without being shot down by another planes. For the second F-3, Golden Eagle uses missiles to fight with it, the pilot seems pretty good as he’s able to do some missile evading maneuvers, however, with 4 missiles continuously, yeah, there’s no chance for him to escape. The missile explodes and destroys the entire rear of the aircraft, making it loses control and fall down, the pilot somehow able to control the aircraft to fall at the direction where the Japanese fleet is and ejects at a safe enough altitude. Next is Terminator, he is in a dogfight with two F-35C, Terminator’s specialty is that he is completely unpredictable because he is able to control his aircraft like his body. The two F-35s even have a lot of trouble tracking him, seconds ago he’s in front and after he pitches down out of their sight, he’s gone, he’s already behind them. His plane is also armed with special R-27s that can lock and fire two missiles at two targets at the same time. After toying around with the F-35s, he decides to finish them, he fires two missiles at them at a relatively close range giving them little to no time to react, they both are shot down exactly 2 seconds after the missiles are launched, both aircrafts are severely damaged and the pilots have to eject. At the same time Arctic Wolf and the second in command, known as Sky Ronin, engages in an intense battle. Sky Ronin uses an experimental F-35JX, an F-35 with a canards with diamond wings design, it also has thrust vectoring nozzle and it is by far the most advanced Japanese fighter ever made. But when fighting against the SU-60SMX, the F-35JX is completely inferior to the Russian advanced fighter, combined with Arctic Wolf’s amazing flying style, Sky Ronin basically cannot win. They fight very intensely but Ronin realizes that he’s no match against Arctic Wolf, he pulls himself out of the battle unexpectedly while fighting and retreats back to Shokaku, both planes are completely undamaged despite both fires missiles at each other continuously. But the most intense battle of all is of course, the dogfight between Snow Demon and Shinigami, T-60 Phantom VS F-16JX Kai Falcon. Both engages in an intense high speed battle, they fight at around Mach 1 speed. Shinigami is currently the chaser, but that doesn’t last long as Snow Demon activates his air brakes while they’re flying straight, massively decreasing his speed and at the same time, catches Shinigami off guard causing him to reflexively pitches his aircraft up, Snow Demon falls behind and he immediately turn his throttle up to afterburner and chases Shinigami, he fires 2 R-77M at Shinigami but he evades all of them, Shinigami then does a barrel roll while applying air brakes at the same time, their position is switched again. Shinigami only has 2 missiles left and he fires them at Sokolóv, but there’s no way he can get hit, he pop flares and does high-Gs pitch at the same time, the missiles miss and fly straight unguided. Shinigami angrily slam his fist on the instrument panel and retreats back to the Shokaku. “That takes care of the Orochi squadron.” Snow Demon says. The Squadron X retreats from the battlefield and flies in formation again. Sanae has already taken off and flies towards the squadron with her heavily loaded 7th Gen SU-57KS. Snow Rose and Arctic Wolf who are flying next to Snow Demon, fly aside to leave an empty space for Sanae to fly next to him.
Sokolóv: “You ready Sanae?”
Sanae: *Deep breath “Okay, I’m ready.”
Sokolóv: “Alright… Sanae, my sweet daughter, make me feel proud of you.”
Sanae: “Yes, papa.”
Sanae’s express becomes serious, her plane rolls upside down and pitches to fly downward, when it reaches 1000m altitude, the plane rolls back to normal and pitches up to level flight, then Sanae turns on afterburner and the aircraft flies straight at the enemy’s naval fleet, the aircraft’s speed is nearly at Mach 1.5 when she’s near the fleet. She launches all 4 air-to-ground BBR at 4 frigates and damages them. After she flies straight by the fleet, she turns around for another go, but she now doesn’t have any missiles to fight the fleet, so, what will she do? Since the ships are in a tight formation together, she flies straight into the enemy fleet and starts flying between their ships, purposefully triggering the automatic anti-air missiles and gun turrets to fire at her, but actually, her father told her of the plot holes of the automatic anti-air weapons, so, by flying between ships, she’s actually tricking the anti-air weapons for the ships to fire at each other, smart girl. She keeps flying like that until she sees that most of them are running out of ammo, at that point, all ships are already damaged a lot. Then, she flies far away from the fleet, climbs to a high altitude and turns around, she locks one of her weapons at a destroyer in the middle of the fleet, she presses a button on the joystick, and the weapon is launched is the X-42/Kh-42 on her right wing. The half drone half missile flies straight to the destroyer without being shot at because all anti-airs are out of ammo. A massive kinetic explosion, even bigger than some nuclear bombs completely destroys that destroyer and many ships around it. The sheer explosion force of the missile also capsizes a lot of ships within the explosion radius. The explosion also creates a massive water curtain (you can see a bomb detonation underwater video for better reference) blocking the ships’ visibility, one of them, is lost in all that water, it is the Shokaku, she was commanded to move away in order for her anti-air to not fire at other ships, but doing so makes her way too close to the explosion and the ship is now inside of the water curtain. The crew onboard trying to stand up after being knocked down by the shockwave of the explosion and trying to figure out what just happened. After Shinigami gets up and starts looking around to analyze the situation, Sanae flies by above the confused aircraft carrier extremely close, intentionally letting the crew to see the Trinity hanging on her left wing. Shinigami looks at Sanae in shock and he says: “Shit… that BITCH STILL HAS A TRINITY!!!”. He then rushes to the carrier’s island, storms into the control room, takes the microphone and yells: “Crew! That thing still has a Trinity hanging on it and it is targeting us! All sailors, evacuate immediately!!”. The crew starts rushing to the life boats for their life including the Orochi squadron, only Sky Ronin, who is still in his totally fine plane, takes off and flies to the JN Kaga. Sanae doesn’t fire immediately, she’s actually circling at a far distance and asks Snow Demon to observe the carrier, she’s waiting for everyone to abandon their ships before she can fire. After all lifeboats are dropped moves far away from the carrier, Snow Demon tells Sanae to fire, she turns around to face the carrier, waits 3 seconds for the missile to lock and she presses the button. The Trinity is a cruise missile so after it is dropped, it opens its wings and the engine ignites 2 seconds after dropped, it flies straight to the Shokaku and reaches mach 2 when it’s close to the ship. Sanae is somehow able to aim it to fly into the carrier’s hangar, the missile flies through the hangar door of an aircraft elevator, flies into the hangar and explodes the carrier from the inside. The same explosion like the X-42 happens (the Trinity is developed and made before the X-42, they both use the same powerful non-nuclear warhead) and it splits the Shokaku into 3 parts, the entire deck is gone, completely destroyed. From far away, in the life boat that the captain of the Shokaku is in, he looks in sadness as his killed carrier slowly sinks into the sea. He lifts his hand up to his head, takes off his hat and lowers it to his chest, showing respect to his beloved carrier. The sailors who is onboard with him also salute to show respect to the burning and sinking Shokaku. He then sits back down, looks at his sailors and says:
“I… I don’t want to be a part of this anymore, I want to go home.”
“Captain?”
“23 years ago I came here with the destroyer Tenryu, only for it to be sunk by the Kiev battlecruiser. 23 years later, I lose another ship, she’s the ship that I have loved the most. What’s the point of fighting if we can’t win?”
“…”
“And I’ve been asking myself after the Tenryu was sunk: “What’s the point of this war? What is it actually for?”, and I still have no answer, I’m just a normal person who is skillful enough to command a supercarrier after all, not someone who is working with the government.”
“Hmm, you have a point captain.”
“And… I tell you this, but don’t tell anyone else okay?”
“Aye captain.”
“I’m thinking of changing side.”
That sentence surprises everyone, but after a moment they think about it, it actually connects and makes sense, the captain adds:
“Who know, if we change side then we might be able to know what exactly is going on, rather than just blindly fighting and losing like this.”
The sailors nod. All that chatting also makes them not realize that the Kaga is already next to them, two hooks are dropped down and the captain took one of them and hook onto the boat. After the boat is hooked, Kaga pulls it up, the crew gets out and enters the ship. When they’re on the second deck, they meet the captain of the Kaga, he’s slightly younger than Shokaku’s captain, he says:
“Hey, I saw you have a little chat with your sailors down there, what ya talking about?”
“I will tell you later comrade, now I just want to rest from this exhausting battle.”
“Alright, so you’re probably looking for a few beds right? There’re some on the lower deck, they’re for pilots who fight at night, but guess you can use them for now.”
“Alright thanks, see you later.” *turns around
“Oh, and, sorry for your loss.”
*Looks back “… thank you.”
Only Kaga, Zuikaku and around 6 other ships survive the battle, there was some submarines as well but they’re all sunk by the RN Volgograd nuclear subs.

Once again, Gensokyo is the winning side, this day also marks the first ever boss battle in this war, Sanae single-handedly fought with the Japanese Navy, that’s made her the boss of this attack.

Reimu was told to not engage so she stayed at her shrine and observed the whole battle, however, when she saw Snow Demon’s white and black color scheme, her mind started to become messy again because she actually saw him in the past’s war. At 6pm, Reimu is still looking at the family picture, trying to figure everything out. However what she didn’t expect is Sokolóv comes over to visit her. When he says “Hello Reimu.” to greet her, Reimu is surprised and she asks “You know me?”, “Of course I know you Reimu, I’ve heard that you are having some troubles currently, right?”, “Y-Yes.” she replies. Sokolóv sees the picture on Reimu’s mattress, he asks “Can you hand me the picture on your mattress, Reimu?”, Reimu looks back at the picture, picks it up and hands it to Sokolóv. After looking at it for a bit, Sokolóv says: “Alright, I know what you are looking for, I’m currently having something here, it may help you with what you are doing.”. Gently, Sokolóv puts his hand inside of his jacket and he takes out another picture, gives it to Reimu upside down so she doesn’t see the picture, he smiles at her. Reimu flips the picture and her eyes widen, it is a picture of him with the same family in the picture she’s having, she looks at Sokolóv with a shocked expression:
“Do you… know them?”
“Yes, I know them, they are you real parents.”
“They are-… Really…?”
“Why would I joke about this Reimu, they really are your parents.”
She looks at the two pictures and looks at him again.
“…What were they like?”
“They were very good people, they were very lovable, out going, they really loved you because you was their only child.”
Reimu looks at the pictures again
“But sadly… the reason you have no memory of them is because…”
Sokolóv takes a deep breath, Reimu looks at him curiously.
“They were gone when you was only two years old.”
Reimu is shocked, her feeling is like something has stabbed through her, she starts to feel mental pain for the first time in her life.
“How that happened, I have no idea, the last thing I saw is their plane was shot down by Shinigami, the 37564 aircraft.”
Reimu, puts her hand on her head, indicates that she’s having a headache again, she says:
“Okay, let’s just take a little break, this is a bit too much for me.”
“Well, it’s good that you decide that, this is the best I can do for you. But Reimu, the truth is very close now, and I believe in spirits, I believe in the presence of the passed aways, so, I hope your parents will come back to you and to show you what actually happened 23 years ago.”
They then say goodbye to each other and Sokolóv goes back to SAAC airport factory. Reimu continues to look at Sokolóv until he’s out of sight, then she turns around to go back in her shrine, she decides to go to the backyard to have a breath of fresh air. But when she opens the door to the backyard, she sees a red and black two seater MiG-29 parking next to her plane, she’s surprised, but after she blinks, the strange aircraft is no longer there, she thinks (okay, I really need some rest now, I’m starting to hallucinate.), but little does she know, that wasn’t a hallucination, that was the very first vision she has from the ones who have passed away, her parents.
