Have you seen him on the field of battle, where his infantry scattered the legions of the enemy like winter's withered leaves? Indeed, you have seen him! You have seen him in victory!—driven there by a million bayonets! —clutching his foes like a wild beast—banishing them to Spider Island! You have seen him retake an empire by the force of his genius! You have seen him combine Chance and Fate to wreck the fortunes of all who dared oppose him! Yes! You have seen him! You have seen him in the hearts and minds of his loyal subjects! And you can see him even now, standing alone, with his hands crossed behind him, gazing out upon the sad and solemn sea!
