Episode 9: Awakening
“Uhm… sir… I don’t know if this is an error or something… can you come have a look?”
“What is it-… what in the world is that…?”
Gensokyo, 6:30.
Sokolóv: “Now the Orochi squadron is no longer available, we was able to remove one major threat. But we can’t let our guard down yet. Japan is recently famous for making super weapons.”
Masayoshi: “Yeah, I have a feeling that something big will happen soon…”
*Ring ring…
Sokolóv: “This is Sokolóv listening.”
Caller: “Oh hey, it’s good that you’re the one on the other side. Anyway, so… uhm, we have received multiple reports of a strange massive object completely painted in black, it was spotted docking in Japan by our satellites, that thing is approximately 300 meters long, we can’t fully identify it due to its color. Can you gather some visuals for us?”
Sokolóv: “Great way to start a fucking day, alright, we’ll get to it.”
Caller: “Thank you, we will expect for the results.”
*Ring ring…
Shtorm’s captain: “Yes? This is Shtorm’s captain.”
Sokolóv: “Hey man, you have any drone on your ship?”
Captain: “I thought anything, drones? We have plenty of them.”
Sokolóv: “Alright, you guys have any S-70 drone?”
Captain: “Yes, we have… 15 of them.”
Sokolóv: “Alright, we need 5 for a spying mission. A strange ship has been detected in Japan.”
Captain: “Alright, we’ll prepare them, can you come over? Because the drones can only be controlled from this ship, it’s like playing a simulation game basically.”
Sokolóv: “Alright, we’re coming.”
After they’ve arrived and gone onto the Shtorm, they go straight to the drone piloting room to control the drones. 5 minutes later, all 5 S-70 drones, fully armed with aa and ag missiles, are on the deck, ready to take off. When Squadron X finished preparing, they push the throttles up, the drones take off from the Shtorm and fly to Japan.
Volkóv: “So, what are we hunting for today chief?”
Sokolóv: “It’s a pretty big fish, reported to be up to around 300 meters completely painted in black. I’m suspecting that it is the Basilisk from the blueprints we got a few days ago.”
Orlóv: “Basilisk… the triple hull submersible aircraft carrier?”
Sokolóv: “Yup, that’s the one.”
Volkóv: “What’s our mission now to be precise?”
Sokolóv: “We need pictures of it and send them back to our base in Russia, a spying mission basically.”
Volkóv: “Alright, this should be easy.”
When they arrive, the drone squadron is welcomed by 2 different fighter squadron, one is a regular Japanese squadron with F-15Js, the other is known as Japanese High Technology Fighter Squadron (HTFS in short), that squadron consists of 5 ATD-Xs painted in bright white with blue and red stripes like a race car’s livery. The 5 drones take care of the F-15 squadron easily, but the other squadron is pretty good, they must have been taught by Shinigami based on their flying style. But those planes don’t stop Squadron X from doing their mission. *Ping, that’s the sound of the first picture taken from the S-70 piloted by Roza, but it’s still pretty far so the ship isn’t identifiable yet. Within 2 minutes, 25 pictures of the Basilisk are taken. Eventually, the squadron flies closer and closer to the massive ship.
Roza: “Woah, I’ve never seen anything like that in my entire life…”
Volkóv: “That definitely shaped like a submarine… and it even has a runway too.”
Sokolóv: “Alright, take a few more pictures and we’re good to go.”
After 4 more pictures are taken while they fly by the submarine, all drones turn around and fly back to Gensokyo.
Suddenly, a blood curdling sound of a siren blares across the whole sky. Everyone on the Shtorm is surprised by the siren. Squadron X decides to turn around and see what’s going on.
Terminator: “This… isn’t an air raid siren so it’s probably isn’t for us!”
Sokolóv: “Let’s turn around and see what’s going on!”
Everyone: “Roger!”
…
Sokolóv: “Fuck! That thing is moving!!”
Everyone on the ship widen their eyes in shock.
4 Mitsubishi F-2 painted in black with red wings can be seen on the deck. Around 20 seconds after they’re spotted, they take off, one of them carries a massive cruise missile.
Sokolóv: “4 birds have taken off, one of them is carrying a cruise missile.”
Roza: “What?!”
Orlóv: “The Basilisk has dived! We just lost track of it!”
Sokolóv: “Forget it! Focus on those planes first!”
…
Sailor: “Sir! I’ve just found one missile file in the blueprints folder! It looks exactly like the missile that plane is carrying, name: Burning Meteor, it is an experimental cruise missile based on the Tomahawk but with an extremely powerful nuclear warhead, I think it might be as powerful as the Solntse, its range is just over 1000km!”
Sokolóv: “All aircrafts, take them down! Quickly!!”
All 5 drones then starts chasing the unknown squadron. They go full afterburner to catch up with the enemy crafts. The planes fly in a formation which the 3 other planes act as a shield for the one that carries the cruise missile. Sokolóv locks on one of them and launch a BBR, the missile uses infrared homing to chase them, but as soon as they start popping flares, it switches to radar guided and ignore the flares, one plane down. Within just 1 minute, two more are down, leaving only the one with the cruise missile flying. Sokolóv locks onto the last plane and launches an R-77. A massive nuclear explosion occurs in mid-air nearly makes the drones lose control, luckily, everyone is able to regain control of their drone and return in formation again. However, something strange happened that catches everyone off guard: right before the missile hit, a yelling can be heard on the radio, possibly comes from the enemy aircraft: “FOR THE EMPEROR!!!-…” *radio static . The entire Shtorm is completely silent after that, Squadron X still continues to fly the S-70 drones back to the Shtorm.
After 20 minutes, the drones are back and land on the carrier. The mission is a success but… something doesn’t feel right, everyone either seems confused or worried. Squadron X stands up and leaves. But just when they’re about to exit the room, the radioman who has been sitting still, listening to something suddenly stands up very quickly, causing everyone to look at him.
Captain: “Hey man, i-is something wrong?”
Radioman: “I… uhm… while Squadron X was returning back, I was able to pick up some audio signals, they sounded quite blurry, but after a few filtering to make the audio clearer, a speech could be heard, I just hear it and it sent chill down my spine.”
Sokolóv: “Okay… can you play it out loud for everyone?”
Radioman: “Yes, I am just about to do that as well.”
…
Extremely static and distorted voice: “Comrades, 23 years they’ve hidden away from us, they ignored our peace offering, they shot down many of our pilot, sunk many of our ships, killed an uncountable amount of people, somehow victory has always been on their side. But now, thing has changed, we’re currently having an unmeasurable amount of firepower in our hand, why should we have to follow the order from above? To me, this ship isn’t a tool, this ship has a purpose, it is meant to end this war in a quick and elegant way, we will kill people, and they will have to be horrified by the amount of lives we will take, only then, they will let go off their weapons and surrender to us. We will bring justice to our land!!! FOR THE EMPEROR!!!” *cheering in the background “Change course to 345!!!” *audio becomes more and more distorted to the point what’s left is only static*
Radioman: “Not sure what he’s up to but definitely nothing good for us.”
Captain: “345 direction… from their last known location…” *he says while looking at the world map
Sokolóv: “What is it?”
Captain: “… Wait… they’re not heading here… they-… they’re going for Russia?!”
Sokolóv: “What?!”
Captain: “Contact to the base immediately!!! Tell them to send out submarines and battleships, we can’t let that thing get near our homeland!!!”
*To be continued…
Gah dayum i gotta up my game
