A New Direction - SWL-120 Progress Update 6.9

49.3k PlaneFlightX  7 months ago

This was my 2024 April Fools joke. I hope you enjoyed it!

Part 8 >

Welcome back to the sixth point ninth SWL-120 progress update. I know it's already been two years, but I still don't think the SWL-120 is done. In fact, it is barely even started. You can view this progress update in video form here.

I would like to inform you that as of today, April 1st, I have decided to make the SWL-120 even more detailed. I've already done the economy class interior, complete with working in-flight entertainment screens, and a variety of movies.

I haven't done the cockpit, wings, engines, exterior, cargo bays, or tail yet, but I have also built some even more detailed landing gear.

Coming This Century

Release Dates

Not sure yet. I was hoping for Christmas this year in the last progress update, but I really don't think that'll happen. I think it might be Christmas 2050, but I'm not promising anything.

FAQ

Q: How many parts does this have?
A: The parts are spread out across several files, but when I assemble a "test fit", it's just a few million! (that does use mods though, so estimate 3 billion+ for the no mods cargo version)
Q: How many FPS can I get?
A: It depends on what computer you have, but as of this update I get about -69 FPS on my $34754875 NASA PC. It's all about single-core performance and some GPU, so if you can develop a better CPU than NASA you may be able to run this thing.
Q: gib releas date when
A: Not sure yet, as I've said above I only want to provide the highest quality parts, so I'm taking my time.
Q: Mods? What about no mods?
A: I'm making two versions. One uses a custom mod to make the thing playable (I mean you still need a 4090 for the 3D models but eh), and the other has a couple hundred thousand parts and is a cargo version. You can read more about this in the fifth progress update.
Q: How do I fly this?
A: I am making a technical manual and a checklist. The manual explains every single control with labelled diagrams, and the checklist essentially tells you what to do with those controls. There will also be an autostart feature if you really hate procedures. You can also put on your VR headset and enable ultimate realism, which will spawn simulated people such as a co-pilot and ground crew to help you out.
Q: When is the next actual progress update coming out?
A: I think in a few months. I just need to make the video and finish the nose gear. You can actually see it here if you're interested. I develop all my progress updates in some random unlisted post of mine.
