MY 2nd 3D print - AV-8B Harrier II.

51.5k Falkenwut  5 months ago

So, after a long while, I have FINALLY finished my own 3D print, paint and assembly of a 1/72 scale model of the AV-8B N/A Harrier II.

For the paint scheme and decals, I have used Paulus Victor's decal set. The booklet provided a very good variety of decal options, paint references as well as role information of the AV-8B within the Gulf war. Very informative booklet!!

This is the paint and decal reference I used:

For paint, I have used water-based acryllics, and covered everything in a acryllic varnish to give it that shine, as well as protect it from the elements.

Yes, I know, there is no refuelling boom in the model;
Yes, I know, the decals are not perfectly aligned;
Yes, I know, there is no cockpit interior;
Yes, I know, the Harrier AV-8B N/A was not in service during the gulf war;
Yes, I know, the loadout would not have been accurate;

I'm an amateur model builder, who just had fun trying to make a model I wanted to enjoy making, and I wanted to share what I did, and maybe inspire other simpleplanes gamers to make their own models come to life :)

Here is the in-game Original model in case anyone wishes to try printing, building and maybe even make it flyable in-game.

Special thanks to @Destroyerz117 's for his fantastic AV-8B Harrier NA

And before anyone asks, no. I will NOT be printing your models. But If you want help or tips, I'd be more than happy to help were I can.

    @DimitriIqbal91 Would be awesome to see more people try it out! It's the closest you're gonna get to a table-top model of your very own design!

    Honestly quite rad, not common to see SP stuff being 3d printed despite it being an existing feature.

    @winterro If you're referring to the 3d printer, it belongs to a friend of mine and I don't really know all that much about 3d printers in general... but I will let him know...

    @Falkenwut have you checked the thermal paste between the cooling ribs and extruder throat? From my experience, the thermal paste completely degrades in about 1,5 years. it fixes most extrusion and quality based issues.

    @MIGFOXHOUND31BSM26 My friend's printer is a Creality CR-10S Pro V2. Though to be honest it's not the best option for these kind of prints. It tends to have difficulties in small intricate details. Would recommend a resin printer

    @MIGFOXHOUND31BSM26 Not sure to be honest. A friend of mine helped me print it. I will get back to you with the name of the printer used.
