Hey guys, I have some ideas for SP2. I'm not sure if any of these are planned or not. But I think some of them would be cool.
Multiplayer vehicles, say with the cockpit controls/details and how there will seemingly be player models, could I say spawn a plane and pilot it while a friend hops in the back to control a gun turret?
What about self destruct features, crashing planes can be very fun, so why not add the ability to push a button or something to make an engine catch fire.
Basic cockpit compatibility (sorry I'm not good at spelling) as older players may know, before we could easily make custom cockpits, people used to XML a cockpit to be tiny and put it in the cockpit for the camera, the problem I see is, how would that work in SP2?
More water mechanics, not sure if any of this has already been planned, but what about waves? Or better boat mechanics for builds, ships/boats are popular builds, and what if you made a carrier other players could spawn on it? That's far fetched but it would be cool. And what about more AI water traffic, besides the tiny and beast, what about merchant ships, battleships, etc. speaking of which, could the USS tiny, if it is to return, get a revamp? Like the USS Beast did a while ago. And also, please make the ai escorts target only one player if they are aggravated.
Ai aircraft teams, instead of just having "default" or "aggressive" for spawning an AI aircraft, what if you could have a sort of "friendly" option where it would attack "aggressive" AI aircraft?
The ability to use weapons in AI autopilot mode. It would be fun to have a bot pilot the plane while I am the rear gunner.
Obligatory tank tracks/treads
The ability to re-arm an aircraft when you land, it would reload all the cannons/guns, restock all the bombs, repair the plane, etc. as for custom munitions, I guess the way it could work is a sort of "soft restart" where the plane is reset, but everything remains the same.
What if players can be killed? Since it seems we are going to have player models to run around in, why not allow them to die? What about items? Could they equip a parachute, a life jacket, a flare, A RUBBER DUCKY?
Making it easier to make custom munitions/bombs, I would love to replicate the US radar guided "bat bomb" glide bomb from WWII, yes, that did exist and was used against the enemy.
Third person aiming, it would be nice to be able to dogfight and see my beautiful plane without having to be in the cockpit.
More activation groups, let's be real, some builds need more than 8.
Optimization, a few of the ideas were taken from Stormworks another "design it yourself" type game. While it's a great game, it suffers from horrendous optimization, and it has only gotten worse, multiplayer PVP is basically impossible as one player could be seeing one thing, and the other a completely different thing. Now of course, Internet connection plays a part, and some people may have potato devices, and that's something developers can't control, but a significant chunk of it does have to do with poor optimization. Now it will be even harder considering the (presumably) cross platform thing, one player on an old iPad could have significant lag if say another player spawns in a giant/laggy build, now yes optimization with player builds is getting better with the new features, and devices are getting more powerful, but that's something you need to account for.
Public + private servers, say some official servers, where people could hop on and play together, along with private servers that the owners + possible admins can control to their hearts content.
Yeah this was a rant that no one will probably see. Either way I wanted to throw my two cents in there, I get that in the FAQ you said you would be focusing on your own internal roadmap, but I still wanted to throw this out there because I like these ideas and want to share them.
@ollielebanania
Ok I thought of it. I mean builders would XML the basic cockpit parts down to tiny sizes to put in a custom cockpit to act as the cockpit camera, some hid them in the old "test pilot" part that was removed. So how would it work, do you just get in like a clown car?
@PilotBug I still don't understand the cockpit part, I'm sure you know what you're talking about but it's really confusing from an exterior perspective.
I don't know why it won't be a thing, I'm not a dev, but it won't be a thing. I don't know if it's hard to implement or not since I'm not a dev neither, but there are maybe othe reasons for why they decided to not implement that.
@ollielebanania. You know, the basic cockpit parts... How builders used to scale them down when they made custom cockpits.
Also why won't multiplayer vehicles be a thing, since it seems there will be actual player models I don't think it would be too hard to implement, although im not a programmer, so I wouldn't know anything really
@PilotBug Multiplayer vehicles won't be a thing because the question has already been asked and answered.
I don't really understand the issue with the cockpit thing.
@ollielebanania I think Jundroo will make official severs for example: chill server, dogfight server, naval only, all that stuff. Also I’m pretty sure of the singleplayer
@ollielebanania I forgot about the trailer, hadn't watched it in a a hot minute.
Also how do you know multiplayer vehicles won't be a thing.
And my cockpit thing, I'm talking how back before the interior update people would XML resize cockpits to act as the camera, how will that work.
So, my little response to this :
Multiplier vehicles won't be a thing, but I've already discussed some plans with friends to make it possible with magnets and stuff.
Self destructable parts would be nice but it's kinda weird, should we add this option to all parts ? Will it be with an Activation Group ? Will parts like engines just fail or fully brake appart, and what about fuselage parts ?
I feel like it's pretty easy to make cockpits today, it was a pain back when the interior / slicing update wasn't a thing but people already managed to make good interiors and today people really do crazy stuff.
Seeing the trailer for SP2 it seems pretty obvious that the water mechanics will be way better, they showed a boat and a submarine that really looked like builds they made, so I doupt they kept the old water from SP1.
More AI would be great indeed but it's already kinda possible with mods today, so I guess it'll be the same for SP2 if it ain't implemented in-game.
A friendly AI plane would be nice indeed, but will it really be useful in a game where there will be multiplayer ? And will it be possible to spawn AI in multiplayer ?
It's a good idea, I don't know why we can't use weapons and other features while flying with the auto-pilot, it should just try to keep the plane straight.
Yes tank tracks are a need, there's too many tank makers out there to forget them.
Yes it's also a good idea, especially in multiplayer since it would be a pain to respawn every two minutes to re-arm.
I don't know if Jundroo is really willing to make killable players, it's before everything else a building game.
You can pretty much create whatever custom weapon you want today with some skills and time. But I do agree that the system could be simplified.
Third person aiming would be great.
I really do hope that there will be both public and private servers.
