Graingy Survey: What's Your Threshold for Acceptable Maneuverability?

48.2k Graingy  one year ago

If you're building, say, a fighter aircraft, what do you generally aim for it to be able to do?
I, personally, consider being able to do most of the Wright Trench Run to be a pretty good thing to aim for. Also avoiding weird quirks like wingtip stall (which I only recently learned can be largely avoided with Flat Bottom wings...) and the like.

    FT yes, I think the VerticalG FT, idk I haven't played around with FT in months.

    @ToeTips How do you avoid exceeding that, while retaining low speed handling? Is there an XML/FT property that can control that?

    Oh well that depends on the non replica and what it's trying to achieve. In any case I'm still gonna lean to realism with it, so like 10Gs max.

    @ToeTips What about non-replicas?

    Depends on the plane, if it's a Phantom then it won't be as maneuverable as a EuroFighter, me personally I prefer more realistic handling. Also if it has thrust vectoring then it has to do a lot more.

    @Graingy or perhaps I was falsely informed about animals ability to tolerate high gravity.

    @BaconEggs and here I am making planes that can't turn without stalling out.
    Some of you freaks are on another level I swear.

    @Graingy a squiggly line that tells you how much G you can get vs mach number with the constants of gross weights, altitude and drag index of stores example

    simplifies most of it and doesnt give you information of stuff like pitch response or natural pitch tendencies or the behaviors of the different kinds of lift the airframe / wings produce but its neat

    I aim for as much manueverability as humanly, and physically possible

    @Boeing727200F I once made, like, idk 6 (genuinely can't remember) in a row after school from spare papers in my binder. Old worksheets, damaged notes, etc.
    Threw them out iirc.

    I believe so. However, I am far more advanced than the average mouse, so comparison is difficult.
    Edit: just found this. See, I told you mice were better at rats for space travel
