Year: 1995
Place: Greater Rockford Int’l Airport
Plane: Douglas Commercial-10-30 (DC-10)
(No CVR, as the plane was caused by a mechanical failure)
August 23rd, 2:33 P.M, the plane takes off. While trying to, they rotate without enough power, causing a tail strike. The only thing CVR that was found was; “Goddmmit, Charlie!” and “Fck, I can’t see anything!” August 23rd, 3:15 P.M, the plane is landing. The throttle shows the wrong number, the hydraulic fluid and pressure is low, but what the Andrew Brown, who is the pilot, doesn’t know, is that it’s all a failure. The landing goes horribly, as the wrong speed is shown. The speed is shown as 35 knots, so Brown turns the engines off completely. It now shows 25 knots, what he wanted, although the actual speed is below 0. All hydraulic fluid and pressure is lost, and the reverse thrusters fail. Andrew and Charlie (Co-Pilot) divert to grass, and the plane fails to stop. It runs onto a runway and engine 3 hits a car, destroying both. It crushes another by the wheel and the wheel comes off. The plane then flips over, unstable without the front wheel. It breaks into five pieces: the fuselage, the cockpit, the tail, and the wings. The horizontal stabilizer blows into pieces.
DEATHS: 237 (3 on ground, 234 on plane)
SURVIVORS: 8 (1 on ground, 7 on plane)
