Bots Are Out Of Control (PSA & Rants)

93.8k LunarEclipseSP  2 months ago

So recently I got a news from my guy 126, that he was spotted a relentless bot onslaught over someone's post. It appears to be a new user or white-ranked players but they promoting their kind of business via comment section.

Devs and the site maintainer should take action of this relentless bot onslaught, moderators might probably could not doing that by themself, they might could get overwhelmed just for cleaning comment section from heck a lot of spam comments from bots. I mean like... come on! This ain't Instagram, bro...

Additional notes:
Sometimes i feel really bad on this bot onslaught, as they took a form of white-ranked users, it gives a really bad names to the white-ranked. Likr what was written in Rules number 5, verse 1, "Be friendly to new players!". How could we befriend with white-ranked peoples anymore if we could no longer even spot difference between biological human white-ranked user and the spamming bots disguised as white-ranked users? That's why devs, mods, and site maintenance should take action of this relentless bot onslaught.

This is terrible, bots are taking over for real, I've also seen many, and one of them tried promoting stuff in my land vehicles list.

Don't feel bad, the bots aren't as good as real people. New players with bright futures will survive :)

@PlaneFlightX same lmao, but hey, atleast i felt safe knowing that the chances of being compromised is either very slim or near zero, and also because i have wisened up on internet safety after my aunt's account were compromised after clicking a random link by accident awhile ago.

@126 I've used a password manager and scrambled unique passwords for all my accounts (also my SP password is like 100 characters lol).
Example password generated just now: hWjM9Nx04c9A^69q6da$

@PlaneFlightX also, i know that, i actually saw some people getting their accounts hacked/compromised by the whole verifpro thing, that's why i now use long, unique and complex passwords when i have other accounts in a website other than sp, including my google account just incase.

@PlaneFlightX good to know, I'll use that method as you mentioned everytime I become just as curious as you were about what exactly these bots are promoting.

@126 There was the whole verifpro thing a while ago where actual users got hacked, likely from reused passwords where other sites had data breaches and the user used the same password.

I should also note that when I personally choose to visit a site (sometimes I get curious as to what exactly the scam even is), I use a new private window with my adblocker and many other privacy settings (also a new browser session too)). I should also note that aside from rare zero-day vulnerabilities (exploits in browsers themselves which websites can take advantage of), you generally won't get instantly hacked as long as you don't install/download anything (also always have a private/incognito window instead of a normal session).

@PlaneFlightX don't worry, i along with others aren't stupid unlike those scammers, also, damn, i didn't know that bots promoting genuine scam sites exist

@126 It depends on what the link is. Some of them are scams or malicious (and if you don't know what you're doing then it's best to not visit those sites), but many are just dodgy articles on a website that while not necessarily is malware itself, but is not a trustworthy source of information. Additionally some of the links are directly to sites to buy scam products.

@PlaneFlightX im sorry but, i don't think google of all companies would promote their own stuff on a random ass website about planes of all things, also, are those links in anyway malicious? and good on andrew for making it so that you need to have 25 or something account point just to get hyperlinks to work.

Something else I noticed is markdown hyperlinks no longer work for 0 point users, which was likely added to make bot links more obvious.

@126 And on that note, who is behind the bots? It could be just some AI, but why make a "bot comment" / "bot forum" about something like Google or some other reputable brand? I saw one recently here which is just various ways of formatting a Google link.
