I almost got shot by a hunter…

So, I recently got a new four wheeler a week ago and I wanted to test it out. I brought it to a field near a goat farm the next day and person who owned the farm was completely fine with it. So I drove it around and stopped at a pond. My dad was with me too and he was taking pictures of the pond. I looked around at the fields and the sunset. The person who owned the goat farm told me and my dad that it was a hunting area but for some reason, I ignored the warning. As I was looking around, I hear gunshots. And it wasn’t far away, it sounded really close. I look at my dad and he looks at me and he runs towards the four wheeler, gets on it, and goes FULL THROTTLE out of there. I was on the four wheeler with him because we only got one. After that incident I never went back there again.

What would you do if you heard gunshots nearby?

Yeah, that's my bad. I tend to take stuff too literally or too seriously. Thanks for clarifying. My apologies.

    @WisconsinStatePolice
I'm well aware of the chances that the hunter may or may not be aware of Lucas' presence and the shots were (hopefully) unintentional.
    .
I'm aware of the rules of engagement and proper identification of potential targets on whether or not they are an active combatant/assailant. My reply was more or less a joke and I encourage anyone who hears gunfire to have proper bearings on point and to identify the source of said gunfire first before taking any course of action.
    .
I will repeat once more that what I had said before is a joke and if you took it all too seriously, I will not blame you for it. Not everyone gets the humor.
    .
I'm in the Army Reserves and I'm aware of how to react when a there is a firearm discharge in my immediate vicinity, whether intentional or otherwise, and if there are people around me.

    Aaaanyway, return fire lmao

    those were good decisions
If it was close and/or you could discern that rounds were coming toward you or landing close to you, you could probably make yourself known by blowing a whistle or just yelling I guess. Hunters are legally and morally obligated to identify what they are shooting at, and what is beyond it.
    .
Please do not shoot back at the hunter as gemsie said. What gemsie is encouraging is an attempted manslaughter charge. Nobody wants that. Especially the hunter. They really dont want to shoot you and really dont want to be shot by you.
    .
How rapid were the shots? Like a few, single, deliberate shots, or a burst?

Shouldn't have ignored the warning. A miss on his part could end up being a fatal hit on you.

Get down, crawl away. If there's grass, rocks, or trees, use as concealment/cover while moving.
    .
If you're armed, lower one level, return fire in the general direction of the shooter even if you don't see the target. At least your shots will force them to take cover while you get away.
