(I have started a new little segment that I might post once in a while where I talk about things related to like the aviation community.)
OK folks, has anyone of you seen this video , well you may ask what does that video have to do with what I’m talking about today? Well today, I’m gonna talk about a tradition in the Navy that no one has even heard about and that is called Naval aircraft graffiti, or is it properly known in the Navy as “ zapping”.
What zapping is when an airplane from a different aircraft carrier lands on an aircraft carrier that isn’t theirs, so what happens when that happens is that their airplane gets filled up with graffiti, from ludicrous sentences all the way to just random bullshit, this was the type of humor that would go on the aircraft carriers all over the Navy. Basically if a USS Constellation aircraft landed on the USS Essex aircraft carrier, then basically the pilot landing regret that choice for the rest of our lives because their plane would get filled with graffiti and random stuff like that would say things like “man-hole”, “hey ma, I’m home”, “Must be Air Force” or “What’s up, doc!”
This was common during the Cold War, this was a way of telling other aircraft that they’ve come to the wrong place. This is also sort of like sleeping first in the sleepover. Because you think about it if you sleep first people are all gonna start drawing stuff on your face and shit. Well that’s what this happens to be going down in aircraft carriers sadly, I don’t think that stuff goes down nowadays, but during the Cold War, it was a common tradition,
this stuff didn’t just happen in the US Navy, but also in the Fleet Air Arm. Because in one instance a couple of Fleet Air Arm Phantom jets landed on the USS Saratoga and when that happened, this shit got wrecked hard because this is what ended up happening to the aircraft,
well anyway, this stuff also happened in the Fleet Air Arm however, in the Fleet Air Arm, they wouldn’t write a bunch of lewd sentences, but rather put stickers on the airplane, and for the fleet air arm it worked out pretty different compared to the US Navy,
Note: when I mean, fleet air arm, I also mean the Royal Navy as well
Edit: I also made a challenge regarding this type of practice, since I don’t see a lot of aircraft like these on SimplePlanes so yeah link to it is Here or in my bio in the “posts” section
Edit: white thunder used to have this thing where you can put skins on your aircraft, and this was one of them
You can still do this stuff on war thunder but it’s a bit different.
Edit: it’s like being in the military and landing your F3 5 on the wrong aircraft carrier go inside. They put gas on it and then you come outside just to see 1000 bits of brain rot written all over your aircraft along with a drawing of what’s supposed to be skibidi toilet on the fucking tail. And Baby gronk for the nose art
