Aircraft Trivia, Part 2
Well the last time I did one of these was three years back, so I decided sleep was for the week and thought I'd type a new, updated trivia dump for yall
- The AF planes remaster came at an extremely awkward time, as the text piece was released right in the middle of the run, making them outdated even as they were being posted.
- The reason the XFA-36 build was such a brick at low speed was down to a stoke of paranoia that it would be too unstable at landing speed, and it was compensated for a little too much.
- The AF-03 actually does not have intakes (it took me years to notice this)
- My most upvoted aircraft is my build of the Arwing from the SNES title "Star Fox". And also the post with the smallest part count (35) of all my creations
- This is followed by the Eagle Interceptor lego set, and then the Model 002 AWU, which I am both VERY proud of. The hover flight of the Interceptor inspired the AWU's development.
- The AF-08 and -05 were retconned out of existence citing their radical design, and the AF-07 was never even posted for the same reason.
- The AF-09 is a bit of a favorite child of mine. But for what reason, I cannot put my finger on.
- I end to write descriptions with really long sentences. I dont really know why I do, even though I know it is a flaw of mine.
- The Ornithpter proof of concept I posted ages ago had a tendancy to explode after 300 mph, which is why it was abandoned. I simply could not find a way around it.
- Similarly, the quadrupedal walker project also bit the dust for lack of solutions for design problems (This is a habit of mine)
- The description of the PX-047 race car states that it handles well at high speeds. It does not, in fact, handle well at high speeds. Woe, understeer be upon ye.
- The AF-12 prototype was posted for over a year before the final project was uploaded. This is because it was stuck in development hell for much of it.
- The AF-12 was the first plane to be released after I created the AWWB universe, which in concept as made around a video game I planned out with some of my buddies just for fun.
- The AF-13's tail control was disabled because of an error on my part, I managed to forget to turn it on again after flight testing, so I made it a toggle switch instead.
- The AF-13 probably wouldnt be a good fighter due to its intake position. It would likely suffer from serious compressor stall.
- A B-variant of the AF-13 was built by me a short while later, choosing to dump the canards and restore tail control. It flies more realistically
- Prototype builds of the AF-13 were going to have a sort of radar mini-map in the cockpit to show relative enemy position, but my smooth brain gave up and replaced it with a diagnostics display
- The transmission function on the PX-532 was stolen, but the automation of the gears was done by myself. I have since forgotten what I stole it from, otherwise I would have posted credit. Anyways, the transmission kinda sucked and I have myself to blame. I have some ideas for improvement though.
- The PX-047 race car was eventually upgraded to use my double wishbone suspension I built earlier after complaints that the suspension system was incredibly "bare-bones". I have yet to post this version.
- Contrary to popular belief, the Minecraft plane actually had a lot of effort put into it to make it as accurate as possible. I had a model with grindstone landing gear but that version has since been lost
- The AF-14's cockpit is pretty much just a carbon copy of the AF-13's, but in blue.
- The AWU-002 was built in a record four days, during which I practically no-lifed this game trying to make it work
- The AWU-002 is actually missing a fuselage panel on the underside of the tail. This is simply an oversight. The tail is also uncomfortably wobbly.
- The AWU makes my first real application of multiple flight modes into a build. I wanted to play with this concept for a long time but lacked the technical knowledge to do so.
- The Fenrir Automotive T-180s sponsor was based on the "Ascendancy" transhumanist terrorist group from the AWWB universe.
- The AWU-003 was originally going to be an interceptor and recon design, and the AWU-004 would have filled a heavy bomber-heavy tank role and been quadrupedal.
The Wolfen build's cockpit was reused from an unfinished project for a friend of mine, and is not featured on any of my other builds, although it shares a somewhat similar architecture to my other cockpits.
Aright, its 1:30 in the morning, and thats all the little factoids I can come up with. Hope someone gets a kick out of reading these like I would.
But untill next time, folks!
