Trying to fix roll/angle of attack oscillation.

102 NightcoreKid  10 days ago

Hi y'all. I'm finally taking the plunge to upload my own designs after 10 years on here, but I have a serious problem, and a serious question.

How do you correct a ruddervator equipped aircraft's tendency to oscillate back and forth during a roll, incomplete roll, or high angles of attack? Is this a yaw issue, or something else?

I've been making my own "Not a YF-23 but come on look at it" aircraft. I've never made aircraft with ruddervators, given the yaw instability.

It almost works, but it oscillates left and right after a roll maneuver or at just about any angle of attack, especially if you stop part way through a roll. It's not dramatic, but it is bothersome. I've seen other YF-23 and YF-23-like aircraft fly without these issues (tested some myself as well).
This has to be fixable, but I don't know how. Any ideas on what to do, or explanations on what to fix?

I'll leave a link to the plane here. Maybe someone more knowledgeable on this stuff can download, fly, and maybe explain or improve my basis? I just really want to get this working properly. If does, then I can try out my other goofy ideas.

@OverlordPrime Oh my GOD YOU MADMAN!! THANK YOU SO SOOOO MUCH!!! It flies PERFECTLY!
This is exactly what I was looking for.

God I could Hug you right now!

Once this project is finished, expect to see your name quoted about half a dozen times, and a profile link ❤️😉

I know it's silly to get this ecstatic over a game, but I am forever grateful 🙏🏾
My other stupid ideas can finally take flight!

@NightcoreKid alright. Found a fix. Put
Yaw - YawRate * 0.01 in both of the yaw rotators and set inverted setting on the left one to NO. It doesn't oscillate anymore. If it's not enough, try tweaking the 0.01 until you're satisfied with the result.

@OverlordPrime Nope. I used the proper - or + values. It simply did not respond.

@NightcoreKid the ones you mentioned are custom variables. You can see it in the variable menu. Did you put +/- as it is. It's supposed to be either + or -.

I have a link to the actual plane here. Thank you for responding 🙏🏾

@OverlordPrime It appears the game does not recognize that as a legitimate function. There were some other builds that used a function "ruddervatorR" but those also did not translate or work in my game.

    @NightcoreKid hmmmm.....
Give me the unlisted. I'll take a look once I'm free.

@OverlordPrime Just tried this. Unfortunately it ceases up. The rotor stops moving altogether. I don't know what to do about that.

    In the ruddervaror of course

    Try Yaw +/- YawRate * 0.01
Change + or - with each other depending on the outcome. And the 0.01 here determines the sensitivity.

I think i mentioned it before, but could someone more intelligent than myself maybe make some adjustments as well, then let me know what to do moving forward. Ruddervators have always been strange, yet fascinating to me since I was a kid. I don't want my first proper attempt to also be my last.
I'll credit ANYONE who can help me get this squared away so I can continue and finish this build 🙏🏾👍🏾
