Introduction:
In an alternate universe known as the Milwai Universe, Indonesia gained independence in 1938 through both physical struggle and diplomacy. But how did this happen earlier than in our reality?
In this universe, the Netherlands had a vastly different history. After World War I, the country suffered a severe economic crisis due to sanctions imposed on Central Powers nations. This was further exacerbated by the intensifying resistance of the Indonesian people demanding independence. By 1935, the Dutch economy had worsened even more after their attempt to invade Belgium to secure natural resources. As a result, they became increasingly isolated internationally.
When their requests for economic aid and resources were rejected by Britain and France, the Netherlands ultimately joined the Axis Powers in 1936 after being persuaded by Germany with promises of financial assistance and resources. Germany also offered military protection in case the Netherlands was attacked by Britain or France.
Chapter 1: Early Independence (1938-1942)
By the end of 1936, the resistance movement in Indonesia had reached its peak. Covertly supported by the United States and the United Kingdom—who viewed the Netherlands as part of the Axis Powers—Indonesia launched the "Two-Year Revolution." This resistance involved various guerrilla strategies, sabotage of colonial infrastructure, and diplomatic efforts that successfully garnered international sympathy.
As a result, in early 1938, Indonesia officially gained independence and successfully took control of all Dutch territories in the archipelago, including Western New Guinea. In this universe, President Soekarno was more pro-Western, unlike in our reality, where he tried to balance relations between the West and the East. This stance earned Indonesia the support of countries such as the United States and Britain, particularly in facing the threat of expansionist Japan.
As part of its efforts to defend its newfound sovereignty, Indonesia began building an independent military force. One of its major initiatives was the development of a versatile light armored vehicle. This vehicle was designed with the following specifications:
Maximum speed of 40-48 km/h
Primary armament of 75-84 mm caliber
Equipped with 1-2 machine guns of 7.62-12.7 mm caliber
Low production cost to allow for mass production
This project was named "Experimental Armored Vehicle No.1-4." However, out of the four planned variants, only one was successfully mass-produced. By 1942, total production had reached 4,213 units, while the other three only reached the blueprint or prototype stage before being canceled due to resource and technological constraints.
This early independence had significant geopolitical consequences in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly as World War II loomed. Indonesia had to carefully determine its course amid the escalating global conflict.
Now, i will divide this Story into 4-6 chapters. And ofc i would make the tank (and Its Variants) mentioned in this Chapter before I Continue the Chapter 2!
