If I have 5 Apple's and you have 7 pencils how many pancakes will fit on the roof,
Purple because aliens don't wear hats.

    @jsaret it's like a weird brainwashing thing where you learn the 7 habits and they incorporate the language of the 7 habits into your daily life, just look it up especially in 8th grade, how do you expect these kids to go around saying "be proactive and put first things first" and that type of trash

    @Flightsonic yeah. It seems:
    Goal of common core: Make math more understandable to those who struggle with it, while leaving the more advanced/smarter/etc...
    Actual effects: Discourage those who struggle, and confuse those who don't, maybe even discouraging them.

    WHYYYYY
    we need more people in STEM!

    @jsaret In my math (well we moved like 11 units back for some odd reason) we were doing cross multiplying fractions (so to find x- we'd 1/2 x/4- easy) and we were doing all this complicated stuff and I blurt "Couldn't you just divide the denominator to get the other one, and whatever number you used, multiply the numerator to find x"

    You know, I'm studying physics in college. Never had to use common core math, but from all the pictures of it I've seen around the web and in life...it looks excessively pointless. Taking 3 from the 5 and getting 10+3 is how I do it in my head, but the question asking this makes me say "why???"

    I know what you guys mean. Ever since "fog" became something legitimate in math, I've been lost.

    @Baldovino but what is the ultimate QUESTION? Guess we have to wait another 10,000 years to find out...
